Placing archwire 3 days after tooth extractions

#1 Post by anngie27 »

I had all 4 second premolars extracted yesterday at 10 am. I was given a 5 pm appt this tuesday to have my first ever archwire placed on my side teeth only. I only have my molars with brackets on them and my first premolars with brackets.
I am concerned that it msy be too soon to be putting in the archwire and buttonsamd am worrying about disrupting to clot or something else since healing isnt goin to be far along. The ortho said this is the best time for doing this and i didnt voice my cimcerns since i didnt think about that until after i saw the gaping holes.
Should i wait? Or will this be ok to do? Anyone else have the archwire put in so soon after extractions?
Thanks

Absolutely no problem, as long as you are comfortable and able to open your mouth. A lot of our patients actually have their archwires in, ready to begin space closure the second the teeth are extracted. The most important thing to do is to follow the instructions from the surgeon who is removing the teeth to ensure you won't have any complications. Good luck!

Thanks Dr. Tam.
I will be going ahead with the archwire placement tomorrow. So far, i have been following the oral surgeons recommendations.

I had my arch wires put in two hours after my extraction... I waited until the bleeding stopped and I could take the gauze out of my mouth. I did not have any problems at all. My orthodontist gave me the option of waiting 1-10 days to do the wires but I opted to just do it all at once and am glad I did!
