I've had braces for about 1 year and 5 months. I had an over jet, overcrowding,overbite and an impacted canine also i had a tooth all the way in the back that never found its way in the right position. All that has been corrected except for the impacted canine and it really SUCKS! I hate walking around with a gap in my teeth all the time it is so not pretty! I got the oral surgery in march of 2011 and I remember the surgeon saying it was going to take a year and a half for it to come down because of its position so now its been approximately one year and the tooth is REALLY CLOSE to poking through my gums, until today I was doing my homework and playing around with the wire with my tongue and it just broke off and my orthodontist is not open on Saturdays and Sundays so I have to wait t'll Monday to call them. i'M SO UPSET BECAUSE THAT means i'll have to have the surgery again! AND SOMETHING IMPORTANT. Where I got my surgery done I guess they didn't have none but, I was told I was supposed to get a gold chain attached to the tooth but instead they used a wire and tired it around the bracket they attached to the tooth and my orthodontist has been using some type of thread and tying another one to the wire every visit and putting pressure on it if that makes sense. also my tooth was Really close to coming down I could literally see the bracket underneath my gums. Does anyone have a similar situation if so please share and advice would be appreciated too.

This will be me once I can afford however much the surgery is going to cost. I have my consultation with the oral surgeon in 2 weeks because my baby canine never fell out. NOT looking forward to it! My braces are already costing me a fortune (even though it's so worth it!) Good luck with everything! Can't wait to see some pictures so I can see what to expect!

Well whenever you do have the surgery its going to be really painful! Your conscious the whole time and for me they kept giving me shots to numb my gums. I got so used to them giving me shots over and over it kind of didn't hurt anymore. But its not that bad i hope i didn't give you too much of a bad idea because it really isn't soo bad it only takes about and hour and it the really painful part is afterwards so your going to need pain meds. i do agree even though braces are a pain they are totally worth it. No pain No gain. Right?

Wow. Repeated shots to the gums? How long does that surgery take? I've had repeated gum surgeries, and I've never needed more than two sets of shots, and both of those come before the perio ever picked up his scalpel. (Okay, the first time he cut before he decided I wasn't lying when I said I was going to need more than one ampule. I seem to "feel" cuts and needles really well (even a stupid flu shot feels like a harpoon) and I always need more anesthetic than the dentist thinks.) I thought the shots usually lasted an hour or so.

I had the surgery and this time it was much easier and less painful but it seems like my tooth isn't moving I am really worried because i still have this ugly gap and im not seeing any progress with the movement with the impacted canine its like its just staying in place. and its been 2 months now!!!
