Kenny's 2 Year Brace Story

#1 Post by kennyandrew85 »

I am currently 1 year through a 24 month (life sentence).

Just thought I would post an update to how things are moving, my extraction gaps are still probably half way open and my bottom teeth seem to be closing faster on the left than the right but I think that's what elastics are for evening out towards the end!

Anyway, pic below, progress is much slower now as we're waiting for the molars to move forward which takes a while. Also I have a gap opening up next to my right canine but I'm sure thats easily closed when everything is in position.

Hope this gives some new starters some encouragement. Can finally rest my lips without my teeth sticking out.

Attached 2 more 'before's from the side, so glad I did this now, imagine living my whole life with those teeth.

Looking really good Kenny. You must be delighted. Do you think you will finish early?

What type of archwire do you have on top? I have had white coated small round profile niti wires so far and am hoping that white coated wires will still be available when I progress to rectangular profile or stainless steel wires.

Al the best

Thanks for the comments everyone.

I don't think I'll be finished early, I asked my ortho a week ago at the last adjustment and he said that there is a possibility but I wouldn't expect it. I am getting married next July and hoped they would be off by then but he said he couldn't promise it.

In response to the wire types, I am currently in steel wires, they are white coated and every wire I've had has been so far. I have clear powerchains over the wire instead of ligs now which actually makes the coating last about 9-10 weeks without peeling off.

The only downside is the powerchain is usually yellow by the 8th week and it always looks like I haven't brushed my teeth.

I've also just had wire ties fitted to the bottoms which are thin wires twisted around each bracket to hold the teeth still, I really hope I don't get these on top as they stand out quite a bit!

i have clear powerchains on my lower arch and have the same problem you describe i.e. them turning yellow. i expect to get some on my upper arch as well when i go in for my next adjustment next week.

Now THAT is some progress! Looks really, really good!!!

Have you had to use elastics yet?

From what I can tell, your bite seems pretty good as well! I am telling you - you will definitely be getting those off ahead of schedule!

Thanks! I haven't had elastics yet and also got extraction gaps. If you told me a few months ago I'd believe you but progress has been slow in the last 2 adjustments grrr
