Elastics question?

#1 Post by softballgirl »

I just created my account, because I just got a new elastic configuration about 2 weeks ago, and I've been trying to find some information on the configuration but have been able to find no one else who has had the same configuration before. I have box elastics on my front teeth, and triangles on the teeth right next to them. The link is to a picture I edited with lines that show where my rubber bands are placed. I've had braces for almost 3 years now, and my orthodontist said that if I wear my elastics 24/7 and am really good about it, I might be able to get my braces off this summer, so I was wondering if anyone could tell me what this elastic configuration will do for my bite. Any information you have will be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

It's difficult, but I just have to remember to not open it very wide, so, needless to say, I've had a lot of elastics snap in my mouth when I open it too much, lol.

It looks like this will line up all your upper and lower teeth and settle them into a final position. I suspect that i am going to need a configuration like this soon. My ortho first had me in a single box across the front teeth now has me in two boxes on each side but as I see changes happening and certain places where the teeth meet better than others I was thinking that something like this would be what was needed to do the trick

I have 4 elastics but not in the box shape .
Those are to correct your bite so you rest the upper on the lower correctly and to close any gaps between your upper and lower teeth which show up when you close (if any) .

I assume that you will feel the different within a week ! Those elastics are painfult but are amazing with the changes they do :-*

Mister Chris, I sincerely hope you don't have to have this configuration, as it is no fun at all and rather embarrassing! I wouldn't wish this same configuration on my worst enemy! I try to hide them as best as possible, but since they're all in the front, it's quite difficult!

Noni, thanks so much! I suppose that makes sense, since all my teeth are already straight and everything, so I don't know what else there could be to do!

Xanidu2012, it's actually not hard to open my mouth, it just gets difficult when I try to open it far or all the way. I just have to make sure I don't open my mouth too big, so sometimes it's a problem, but for the most part, it doesn't affect opening my mouth. It's worse when I first wake up, since I haven't been moving my mouth, the elastics are still really tight and I have to stretch them out.

My next appointment is July 9 and I'm really hoping they'll tell me that I can schedule my appointment to have my braces taken off, so I've been wearing my elastics as often as I possibly can! I'll definitely keep y'all updated when anything changes! Keep your fingers crossed!
