6 months smiles - progress and opinions?

#1 Post by Lux »

Hi All - I haven't posted in a while...
I got my braces on November 23rd 2011 - So they've been on for 7 months. (I am in the 6-month-smiles braces, and my dentist told me it would be about 9 or 10 months for my case).

I'm going to post some pictures of where I was before, and where I'm at now, and can you guys tell me how you think they're doing?

I've seen SOME major changes... but I've sort of hit a point now where nothing looks like it's changed in about two months... and I only have 2 or 3 more adjustments left before they're 'supposed' to come off - so I'm getting a little worried... :|

---------------------------------

Ok, so that's all the pics I have so far. So here's my concerns - from the front, I feel like they're looking great. My biggest bone of contention with my teeth when I started where my protruding 'fangs' - you can REALLY see they were pretty bad in the first pic - and they've come back quite nicely. From the front, my smile is really coming along .... but from the sides... :? especially the right side, I feel like it doesn't look so great. Based on what you guys have seen - do you think it's realistic for me to expect these to come off in about September? Or do you think I'm going to end up having them on a lot longer than I expected..

The other thing I am SUPER concerned about - my two front teeth (my 'buck' teeth that hang a little lower than the others) have started to tilt forward. where as they did not before. If you look at my "RIGHT HAND SIDE" pictures, and look at my two front teeth, you can see what I mean. I really really feel like they're slanted on an angle now which gives me sort of a 'bunny-ish' look which I'm really not liking... it wasn't like that before.

Any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated!

-L

PS: it was really hard for me to post these close up "BEFORE" pictures... I used to be VERY self conscious about the way my teeth looked in the before pics. :( Which is the whole reason I'm in braces! Lol

Those seem to be working really well, what is that wire made out of ?

My smile and I'll be braced for 21+ months for some reason.

They look great to me. They look nicely aligned and like they just need to be pulled back a little more to sit more flush against the bottom arches, which should not take a lot more time to achieve. Your smile will be killer! Your ortho is obviously very skilled.

I think that is all going really well.

As for your 2 front teeth, I think that they were actually pointing slightly inwards in the before pics.

Have a word with your dentist at the next appointment and point out your concerns to see what he has to say. I agree that a bit of final tweaking may be in order and he may need to put some ligatures on some of the brackets rather than just the bands.

Wow thank you so much - I never in a million years thought anyone would reference MY smile as "a killer smile" :) It isn't there yet, but thank you for your kind words! I guess I'm still stuck in the "insecure about my smile" stage, even though they've changed quite a bit... I still have some issues to get over mentally, regarding my smile.

First off, your teeth look great!!

Second, I'm in the same position as you. I have had six month smiles braces for about 6 months (will be 6 months by the 24th of July). I had a horrible overlap in my two front teeth on top and that took a couple of months and it was perfectly aligned (but still a little slanted). Now, for about 2 months I feel like nothing has moved at all. It's a little discouraging as I was quoted about 10 months for treatment as well.

Your teeth look great. I am doing my research as I want to get braces this year and this might be the type I want to get.

I think they look beautiful! I have SMS as well and if I have half as good a result I'll be very pleased.

THEY'RE OFF!!!!

I'm happier than a kid in a candy shop right now :)

Attached is my before and after - this is the best thing I've ever done for myself. I'm SO happy I decided to do it. It was so tough at times, and there were many times I wanted to get just them off and say screw the whole thing. But after the result I've got, I'm so pleased. To anyone who is on the fence about doing it, I urge you to go for it. You will thank yourself! :D
