Arrrgggh 6 month smiles

I was due and raring to go to get braced tomorrow with the 6 month smile system. Just had a call from my dentists to say the braces haven't arrived from New York (in fact they were only shipped yesterday :-+ )

This is the 2nd time my appointment has been postponed due to the braces not being ready. Has anyone else had to wait forever until their braces were ready? This has been about 6 weeks now.

I appreciate they take some time to make and that I am based in the UK, but I'm starting to feel despondent now.

My new appointment is now on 11th Sept but as the braces were only shipped yesterday I don't have much faith that they will be here in time.

Sorry to hear about your delay. I don't have experience with this system. But I'm sure it's so frustrating to keep waiting when you're ready. Wish you all the best.

I'm in the UK too and have SMS. Mine took about 4-5 weeks after having the moulds and x-rays etc. Must be frustrating for you, but I'm sure they'll be along soon. Enjoy being able to eat what you want while you can!

Dang. Sorry to hear that. What are they doing with the spacers in this case? I can't imagine they're just having you wear them for weeks on end, but if the spacers stay out of the teeth for too long then they don't serve their purpose. So how are they handling the spacers in your case with the moving install date?

Thanks for your support guys! I am due to go tomorrow to be braced. I did ask the dental surgery to call me when the brackets arrived just so I know they are here and that my appointment won't get cancelled a third time. It's Monday afternoon here in the UK less than 24 hours til appointment time and no call with either good or bad news :Questions:

I don't have spacers so have been lucky in that respect but just keen to get going now!

Good luck everyone else on your journeys!

Hi Hedious, the 6month system works on the same principal as traditional fixed metal braces but it is only suitable for people with little or no bite problems as it only addresses the front few teeth - the ones people see when you smile. Hence the reason it is called 6 months as you dont have to address bite before straightening. Saying that 6 months is just a guideline, some peoples teeth straighten in less than 6 months, sometimes it will take more. My dentist has estimated 5 months for my uppers and 10 for my lowers.
