Should I schedule cleaning for same day of braces removal?

#1 Post by sjs8906 »

Sorry if this has been asked before (I'm sure it has!), but I did a quick search and couldn't find anything.

Does anyone know if it is advisable to have your teeth cleaned the same day you have your braces removed? I need to make my cleaning appointment and it would be easiest to have it all done on the same day, but I'm wondering if my teeth will be sore/sensitive?

I don't suggest it. I was debraced on July 23rd and my teeth were sore and very sensitive for about 10 days. I got my cleaning done on August 3rd which just about right. Good luck!

Thats prob not a good idea.

When i got my cleaning before braces my teeth were sensitive for about 2/3days....

Add that to the debanding pain.......not wise.

I mean unless u have an unusually high pain tolerance. ....Or sum great pain pills. lol

Best of luck!

I wanted to update and say that I didn't schedule my cleaning for the same day and I'm glad I didn't. My gums were pretty irritated afterwards and I certainly wouldn't have wanted any poking and prodding. My teeth were a little sore too later in the day, so I think I too will advise against having them done on the same day if anyone else is wondering! :)

Well it will be 23 months come December, and I am going against all advise here. I am most likely a bit crazy for doing this. Yes I am having the braces removed on ecember 7th and having a permenant retainer installed on both the top and bottom and then having my teeth cleaned. It's a Friday afternoon and I have vicoin already. I had 6 teeth pulled under local prior to getting braces if I went through that pain I can go through anything.

I will let you all know how I make out.

Please keep us posted. I am far from the end of treatment but I always assumed that I would be ok to have my teeth cleaned the same/next day (together with getting my hair and nails done etc etc. :) )

I just want to know if that is possible/advisable.
Good luck
