Can upper braces be removed before lowers?

Hello all.
I was just wondering if anybody has had their upper braces removed while their lowers stayed on? The lower teeth are generally more stubborn, so do they HAVE to keep the top on just as long? Just curious/hopeful..

I'm wondering this too! I want to know whether either set of braces can be removed before the other set or whether they just leave both sets on until all the teeth and straightened. I have an impacted canine on my top which might take some time to come through (although I've only had the tops on for 3 months). So I'm not sure!

Wishful thinking, I guess

Me three. I'd like to know too. My uppers are done, it's just the lowers that need a little more work. I am cool to keep both on until completion but just curious if one set can be removed earlier than the other.

Just been thinking about this and I think maybe not so often because if we retain the uppers and continue to move the lowers it could mess up the bite? having the uppers still braced would allow adjustments to correct that... hmm.

Yes you can have the upper removed before , as long as you don't need elastics to fix anything in the lower .
It depends if there is no dependency on any of the jaw during the rest of the treatment .

I was supposed to get my braces off last month, my top set have been ready since may. but my bottom teeth are on a serious go slow and I wont be getting elastics till november. cant get top set off because he has to pulll top and bottom together to get the bite correct, nevermind my midline. I would imagine that it is the same for nearly everybody

YES THEY CAN! quick explanation- I have been in braces for 17 months, my uppers haven't been adjusted in 10 months, any way to cut long story short my lowers are still going to take around another year, anyway i went to see my ortho today about changing my upper brace to either invisalign or lingual due to self conscious reasons, and to my huge surprise he said my uppers are done and i can have it removed at my next appointment which is in 2 weeks time and go straight into an essix retainer, I cant express just how happy i am about this as i have been so depressed for so long, anyway without going into my brace story answers is def yes! i should imagine the only reason you wouldn't be able to would be if you had bite probs, but if not and your top are straight then ask your ortho to get them off! im living proof this CAN happen!

I'm wondering the same.
