Braces coming off for wedding, will teeth move? Help!

Hello everyone, I get my braces off before my wedding in June. I was given the option of doing invisalign for the remaining time my of treatment OR just put braces back on after wedding.

Originally I was thinking that I will just put braces back on but if I get braces off lets say 3 days before wedding or even 5 days before, put back on 5 days later so total of around 10 days with nothing freaks me out!! My teeth can move back to how they were right?
But if I do invisalign, I can wear those up until my wedding day and immediately after. And also, no more braces!!!!

what does everyone think???

I would not want to be in the middle of treatment and then have no braces whatsoever for 10 days. I don't imagine your teeth would relapse completely, but I expect your treatment would be set back somewhat. A change to invisalign will presumable be very expensive, but perhaps worthwhile if taken in the context of the overall cost of having your wedding as you want it- and assuming invisalign can do the same task as your braces. It is probably not helpful at this point to ask why you did not go with invisalign from the outset.

I don't know whether you can go seamlessly from braces to invisalign or whether there will be some interval between the two. It would probably be best to make the switch to invisalign a few weeks before your wedding. It is worthwhile discussing all this well in advance with your ortho.

I think from the photos you have posted that you have ceramic on top and metal on bottom. An alternative solution which I think someone else on this board has done is to keep your braces on for your wedding but have a white wire on your ceramic brace for the period of your wedding. Your upper brace would not be visible in photos and would only be noticeable to your most observant wedding guests. For many people (not sure if that includes you) the bottom teeth do not show when you are smiling, so the bottom brace would not be an issue. You might ask your ortho if (s)he would let you try a white wire soon for a couple of weeks to see what you think.

Anyway, whatever you decide to do, congratulations and have fun preparing for your wedding and a great married life.

Interesting topic... I'm in the same boat.

My braces were estimated 24-26 months, I had them on April 2011 and I'm getting married in July 2013 which works out 27 months. I am worried they might not be ready to come off by then.

I asked my ortho at the 1 year mark what he thought and he is playing it safe of course and is hesitant to give me an updated estimate.

I didn't realise invisalign would be an option as it wasn't suitable for my teeth when I first went in but of course things have improved massively and I might look at this, is invisalign as expensive for final tweaks as it is for a new patient?

I think there is a pretty high minimum charge for any invisalign treatment because of the fee required by the Invisalign Corp in the US.

I was offered "invisalign lite" as a possible treatment. I think that involves about a dozen aligners or fewer. The cost I was quoted for just my top arch was £4,000. Hence my decision to opt for my sectional fixed brace.
Maybe there is some other non-invisalign aligner option that your ortho could offer at a reasonable rate? People on the inman aligner thread talk about being given one or two clear aligners to finish off their treatment.

Hope you find a solution

Ouch, my regular braces were only £2600 so think i'll forget invisalign.
Worst case scenario I will just wear them on the day, all eyes will be on the bride anyway. ha

I got my top set off for my wedding, I got married abroad and then had them off for about ten days. there was no problem although they were a bit sore back on at the start of the honeymoon. the ortho was going to give me a temporary retainer but decided that it was not necessary as ten days wouldn't affect my treatment, good luck and best wishes on your wedding day.

I met my wife and was married in braces, so really don't see the big deal with keeping them. Is seems like more hassle than it's worth to have them removed just for a ceremony and pictures etc. We are a bit different though, I'll admit, as we had a small ceremony and a party at the house with family and friends. We went in with the approach that marriage itself is more important than how much you spend on an elaborate ceremony. Me having braces didn't even cross our minds as a factor. I understand that everyone has different takes though.

Hope all is well nonetheless!

SMILE (hopefully keeping your braces in tact to finish the job right)

Thanks for the replies everyone, I really appreciate it!

I never even thought to ask my ortho about wearing a retainer for those estimated 10 days. He probably will work that out for me. I can't see him NOT having a retainer for me. Does it take a while to make one/get fitted?

I had the option of doing braces for around 8 months, then invisalign for remaining treatment and was quoted around $7000... I am thinking maybe that'll be my best option now? Not sure what the cost is to put braces back on but might equal out to the price of braces+invisalign.

Wearing braces for my wedding just isn't an option, heck no, no way, NEVER! I salute everyone who had braces for their wedding day, but if you knew me, you'd understand! Maybe I am vain, okay I am vain. hehe.
I want to show pearly whites that are straight with no braces on my wedding day. I love smiling, and I smile big.

I would go with invisalign if I was closer to debrace date (maybe couple of months). However if there was a long way to go still ahead I would just ask for a retainer and then go back to braces.

I haven't posted in forever, but I wanted to give my advice to you! 10 days with nothing CAN set you back a loooong time. I went 7 days without a retainer (DH accidentally threw it away, but my fault for wrapping it in a napkin...even though I told him it was in the napkin... ) I was waiting to go back in for my permanent retainers to be placed and only had 1 week left, long drive to see ortho, so assistant told me it would be fine. It wasn't. :| I had a front tooth that rotated back so much and another tooth on bottom that started going back to original position, that I had to get braces placed again and have worn them for a full year. Luckily my amazing ortho did this for free to give me the results I wanted since I had paid in full the first time. Definitely not worth the week of not wearing anything. At the very least, if you have them taken off, get a retainer- takes about an hour for them to make the essix- and wear that thing 24/7 like they tell you to.Switching types of treatment is up to you, but remember that results vary depending on the difficulty, range of movement they want. My ortho tried to use the retainers to turn my teeth back the right way and after 6 months of that not working we went back to the regular damons. So I had wasted a year and a half after already wearing braces for 3 years the first time. Not fun. But in any case, your ortho should be able to give you an idea of the options that are available to you, including just wearing retainers during that time. Good luck!

Tin,

How far are you into treatment? Are you just concerned how the braces will look in photos? Can you ask the photographer to "remove" them in the final photos?

If you can get the same results with invisilign, if you take them off, why not go that route?

Invisalign is very intriguing. I have heard a few bad things about invisalign from my dentist tho.. So I'm just not sure if I would have to wear invisalign for 3 years.

I know my photog could probably edit my braces out, which is a lot of editing but I just don't want braces at all. I want to eat whatever I want on my wedding day without worrying about food stuck in my braces or about a bracket popping off.

Either a retainer or invisalign will be my best options!
Thanks everyone!
