Braces just on the top teeth?

#1 Post by steviesloth »

Does anyone have braces just on their top teeth, not the bottom?

My bottom teeth are fine. It's only the top that are bad. overbite / overjet, and very narrow sharply angled bite. Only the frontmost 4 teeth are visible when I smile and my lower face is not very full anymore due to there being no "support" from the teeth there, since the bite is so narrow.

Would I still need braces on the bottom in order to widen the bite and reduce the overbite / jet of the top teeth?

A friend of mine asked the same question and was told that in some cases, it is possible but usually it is better to have them on both the upper and lower jaw. Also, if you need elastics to correct something, you will have to have lower braces too in order to have something to connect them to. The lower arch is often used for leverage to get the job done. I think elastics are often used to correct an overjet or an overbite: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1KYOLDAF9Nk Do you have both an overjet and an overbite?

I have upper arch only treatment. I have one lower tooth which is slightly out but that's all-I was told during two consults it was up to me if I wanted single arch only treatment and that what I wanted to achieve would be fine with single arch treatment.

Have upper midline diastema, with a deep bite (being rectified by removable bite plate in addition to ceramic uppers).
