are they worth it? they are fairly expensive and i don't want to *waste* money on something thats not going to be value for money??

My water pik and my dentakit were the best things I could buy for my braces! It's really hard to keep my teeth clean with all my appliances. Flossing especially is difficult but the water pik helps so much and my mouth feels great when I'm done.

And you'd be surprised at all the food particles that get stuck in your teeth. When the water pik is on you see it all.

I would say its really worth your money. I have one and love it. It's a great investment to have with braces! It gets out food particles that you thought you got while flossing. You would be amazed at how much it help. If you eat rice and love rice like I do it will really come in handy because rice gets stuck EVERYWHERE! I will actually only eat rice now while I am at home because I know I am close to my waterpik to remove all the left over rice. So all in all I say GO FOR IT! You can still use it after your braces are removed.

Best 40$ I've spend on dental hygiene period. The high powered one feels as if it could replace brushing.

In my opinion it's overrated.

Don't get me wrong it's enjoyable to use and feels good to move bits of food out your mouth, but... this food would remove itself after a drink or swirl of water usually, it doesn't replace brushing and doesn't replace flossing, it's a bit of a novelty item in my view.

If it was pocket sized and could be taken out to meals, then different story.

Something you definitely will not regret purchasing! I love my Water Pik and use it daily. It gets food out of the "nooks and crannies" !

I bought one from argos coming in at only £26. I am a little disapointed, i dont get that 'amazing clean feeling' all you guys talk about!! Maybe im doing it wrong but, still.. ugh

Have you used the mains powered one (Ultra)? It is loads more powerful than the portable one. I have both and the portable one feels puny in comparison. There is no doubt in my mind that the Ultra can almost completely replace flossing and it is certainly a lot quicker and more convenient.

The downside is that it isn't portable and needs a mains electric socket (not a shaver socket).

If you're thinking of buying a waterpik be sure to buy a model that comes with orthodontic tips. Mine didn't. When I ordered some online at the waterpik store I discovered (after they arrived!!) that they did not fit the model that I had purchased. I think the only models that come with orthodontic tips are models 100, 350 and 450. Now I have to buy another one! I'm pretty unhappy about this development. So just wanted to post a message as a cautionary tale to anyone who thinks they might want one of those kind of tips.

We use ours in the shaver socket.....i must look into the portable ones. I got cabbage stuck all over my braces yesterday when I was out. Any kind of water pic would have helped.

YES. Totally worth the money. Some lukewarm water before brushing just feels so good on tender gums. It's amazing what you missed while brushing and flossing. Lots of gunk still comes out when WaterPiking!

I agree the waterpik is great. I have terrible problems flossing (my coordination isn't great and its hard to find floss threaders here) and my hygenist has been quite impressed with the waterpik in combination with interdental brushes. Its just about finding the combo that works for you. I havn't really noticed a difference between the jet tip and the ortho tip though.

I didn't really have problems cleaning before I got my waterpik, but I do find that it makes cleaning alot easier and faster if I'm home. A quick blast and brush and everything's clean. I always waterpik, floss, and brush before I go to bed. With the fishfloss it only takes three minutes to floss. I agree about the waterpik heads. The regular one works just fine. I never see the need to use the orthodontic head.
