Stained bands after eating curry

Hi all,
I've just discovered this great forum and thought I'd make my first post :-)
I'm 39, from the UK and had my braces fitted on Nov 19th 2012. Last night I had my first Indian meal since having the braces fitted and was shocked to see that the once clear bands have turned yellow!
Hopefully they will be changed on my next appointment.
Dave

Do you know if the bands are changed at the 4 week appointment stages?

Hi
Welcome to the board! I got mine on a couple of days after you did. I have the clear one's and was terrified about staining so I've been careful. Given you have metal brackets, you might like to ask next time for silver ligs (or any other colour if you're interested in that). Then you can eat as much curry as you want
I have smoke coloured ligs on my bottom brackets which look clear but don't stain quite as much (they haven't with coffee anyway, can't comment on curry yet) and might also be an option. But yes, they do change them every 6 weeks or so.

I had no idea the curry would permanently stain the bands. Never mind
Thanks for the tip, I'll try a different colour next time.

I got metal ties instead of elastic ligatures. I told my ortho that I was a curry fanatic, that I ate it at least 3 times a week and that I would consider yellow-stained bands a "dental emergency". She said that in my case, she would do metal instead of elastic. I have ceramics on my upper jaw (will get lowers ones later) and the metal ties are not noticeable at all.

They do change the ligatures periodically, so you'll get new clean ones. To be honest it doesn't look bad like this either. Many patients choose colored ligatures anyway, so it's not out of the ordinary.

I don't have ligs (self ligating) but I do have powerchains. Even on my ceramic braces I ask for silver. They hold up so much better.
Good luck!
