Extractions and braced - all today!

#1 Post by Bernadette007 »

At 8a this morning I went in to my dentist to have 4 bicuspids extracted (and a filling). At 11a I was in the ortho's chair having my braces put on. Whew... I'm glad to have that over with!

So far things are going well. I had a fair bit of pain immediately after the extractions but nothing that some pain meds couldn't take care of. A bit of pressure from the braces but no pain yet (minus getting my cheek caught on a bracket this afternoon).

I'm 30, have extreme crowding, those funky incisors that come in above your upper teeth, and several teeth that are in crossbite. And, I haven't caught on to all the technical terms yet ;)

I hope to post some pics in a little bit! I've been lurking for awhile and have yet to see many pics that started out quite as bad as mine, heh.

I'm excited to see some of your pics too! I too suffer from crossbite.
You sure took the plunge and got it under way all together.
How long will you have your braces?
Looking forward to following your progress. I am going to post some pics, hopefully tomorrow and we can compare whose is the worst! haha.

Did anyone else feel worse about the state of their teeth immediately after they got braced than they did before? They look so much more crooked with all the brackets and wires, heh.

Estimated treatment time is 18-24 months. I keep telling myself 24 so it will be a pleasant surprise if they come off earlier!

Guaranteed you will see results in just a couple weeks. You will be so glad you did this.

Wow, that was some day! In Japan, they won't do more than 1 or 2 fillings per day and only if they are next to each other. I think you are very brave to have had all that done in one day!

Yes! I thought my teeth weren't that crooked but once the brackets were on, it was obvious that they didn't line up and the archwire made some crazy jumps and dips.

Congrats again on getting through such a tough day. Hope you aren't in too much discomfort.

That's really interesting there's a limit on how much dental work you can have done at once!

I'm adjusting ok. There's pain, and annoyance, but nothing that can't be dealt with. I sure do hope the inside of my mouth toughens up pretty soon though! How is it going for you?

Wow! - you went through a lot in one day! My teeth are similar to yours, but only on one side (the other side is weirdly straight). I have top and bottom braces and two extractions and it all took about 3 months to get all of the work done and both sets of braces on. I'm noticing changes already and am really, really pleased so far - despite the discomfort and troubles eating! Your cheeks will settle down in no time - I worried about mine and wondered if they were ever going to harden up but they did and I forget I have braces now. :-)

I hope you are not too sore today. :-)
