Moving jaw with Damon Q's

#1 Post by jazlikeoh »

Hello!

I got my Damon Q's on top and bottom on the 26th of November. My bite needs to be fixed because I was a 100% overbite, all my teeth need to be pulled out and straight, and my jaw needs to be brought forward about 1-2 cms. I was wondering how does a ortho bring a jaw forward that much? I'm hoping to have these done in 12 months (I was estimated 12-18) just because I am very impatient and 24 with a mouth full of metal. Does anyone know much about this?

I'm in my Damons to fix my bite. I wore a repositioning splint to get my jaw muscles to loosen up enough to allow my lower jaw to come forward some. (I have TMJD.) I'm now in braces to establish my bite with my lower jaw in a more forward position.

I've had tons of arch development with the Damons. I've also had some elastics that I wear at night that have helped with the forward jaw thing.

Oh wow. What is a repositioning splint? That sounds pretty serious. I need to ask some more questions about my treatment at my next appointment on Monday.

In my case, my tmj discs had slipped and pushed my lower jaw back towards my ear. This also caused the muscles in my jaw to be extremely tight. Basically they were in constant spasm. The repositioning splint helped me get used to my "normal" bite again and allowed time for the muscles to loosen up. My braces are changing my bite to eventually keep my bite in the "correct" forward position.

I didn't have such a severe overbite like you do, but I will say that the Damon's have drastically changed my arch and with the elastics, my jaw is in the positioning I need. Now, I just need to get the rest of my teeth moved into place to fix the rest of my bite.

I wish you well with your treatment. I think it is great you are doing your research and asking questions. More people should, in my opinion.
