#1 Post by SunshineRay »

I am searching for places that do the lingual braces in my area and was curious what your experience was with the difference in price.

When i first got braces I was convinced I wanted lingual to hide them.

There was only 1 local dentist that offered the service and the price was £6000
I should mention my ceramic/standard braces cost £2800
Brace Date: 14th April 2011
Estimated Debrace Date: 14th April 2013
Real Debrace Date 18th June 2013

4 extractions, upper ceramic brackets and lower metal to fix overjet and overcrowding.

I got all clear braces for $6000ish. My ortho told me he hadn't offered me the lingual one's because they're so much more expensive than what I got. I didn't bother to ask!

I would have paid about $3000 more for lingual but my ortho and dentist both said they cause a lot of speech problems and since I'm a university lecturer, I have to be able to speak clearly. I went with ceramics instead.

Lingual are more expensive because each bracket is shaped to the back of the tooth. They seem to cause a lot of speech problem so even if people can't seem them they probably wonder why you are lisping all the time! Linguals also can't be used in all cases.

I was 100% sure that I was only getting linguals before my first consultation and was quoted €8,000 with 4 extractions. The second ortho said she could do my treatment without extractions but only using metal/ceramic braces and it would be €4,500. I went with the second ortho, more because of the extractions issue but saving €3,500 was a nice bonus too!

Try to get as many consultations as possible - you'll be surprised how your priorities change!

It depends on where you go. Having seen three orthos, I was quoted round about £4000 for upper and lower ceramic braces. The price for Incognito lingual braces ranged from £7500-£9500. (I have bite issues and I'm based around Central London/Canary Wharf, hence the massive bill.) One ortho quoted me £6500 for upper linguals and lower ceramic.

Metal braces were closer to £3000.

I recommend staying away from big city orthos if you want to keep the costs down!

Not sure where you are...£1 = $1.58 (US) or €1.34 at today's exchange rate.

ETA: These prices include all appointments and post-treatment retainers but exclude extractions.
