Finishing dental work after braces

#1 Post by TMJJill »

I'm curious about how many of you will be having some dental work done after you get your braces off to make final adjustments to your look or your bite. If you are, what are you having done?

Me: I need to replace a crown and get 2 caps on back molars in order to get proper height for my bite.

I may or may not get a gingivectomy on my upper incisors.

I will be having composite placed to close some remaining space around my canines, after closing my diastema (which I was aware of would be the case).

I will need at least 2 bridges and one cap. :|

Also, some shaping, I am sure.

I have to get a molar implant. I should look into surgery as well as I have an asymmetrical jaw, left side is longer and it's where the TMJ is, but if they can alleviate the TMJ issues I may not bother to get that fixed.

I have some gum recession, and would like those areas treated, and any remaining black triangles diminished.

I need to have three impacted wisdom teeth removed and an ankylosed baby tooth removed and replaced with an implant. I'm not sure how the retainers will work with the implant process, I haven't asked yet since I still have ~7 months to go.

I may possibly be having a frenectomy and composite bonding depending on the final result. Planning on doing an at home whitening treatment too if that counts!

I will need composite bonding between my two front teeth because my orthodontist said that he will likely not be able to close the space completely. I will also need two bridges where I had two extractions done.

I have a gap where a baby tooth was pulled out that can't be closed so I will have to decide if I want to get an implant (it's in the upper jaw and other than being terrified of pain/drilling into my gum etc I'm concerned about the whole possiblity of hitting my nasal cavity), a crown and bridge (ortho isn't keen on this idea because the back tooth is filled quite a lot and the one in front is one of my viable adult teeth and he doesn't want to mess with it) or a denture. I'm so undecided.

I suspect I will need some kind of shaping of my front teeth too as they have worn unevenly.

I will also have a permanent retainer bonded to the front top 4 and bottom 4 teeth to hold them in place once it's over.
