In college, braces for the second time?

Hi Everyone!

To start off, my name is Chris, I am 21 years old and a college student. I previously had braces as a young teenager to fix a crossbite and straighten my teeth (i believe, I didn't really pay all that much attention at the time). A couple of years later, I had my wisdom teeth removed, but I was still growing at the time, and my bite has shifted to almost an underbite, my front incisors are tip-to-tip, but my retainers still fit and my teeth have stayed straight since.

I definitely think that braces could be of some use to me, but being that I am in the process of looking for future jobs and internships, I am worried that the look could turn off potential employers, not to mention the social stigma associated with braces, especially at this age. Also, I'm wondering if invisalign would be a possible alternative in my situation as well.

Thanks!
Chris

I'm a Medical Student in Braces and it hasn't effected me at all and the job I am looking to pursue has a lot of patient and patient family contact. You shouldn't be worried at all. And I got full fledged metal braces and tons of elastics :)

Hey Chris, I got braces for the second time shortly after college. I was 24. It seems that nearly all my friends who had braces in high school needed braces again! I don't think you should worry about it affecting future job prospects. Schedule consultations with several orthodontists to learn about your treatment options (regular braces or Invisalign) and pricing. The consult should be free and seeing several different orthodontists will help you find one that fits your needs. in my case, Invisalign would not correct my problem.

I'm also 21, and an engineering student in college. At first I worried about what people would think about me having braces, but most don't say anything at all (and I got full metal). And those who said something were supportive and encouraging. Plus, if you get them now they will hopefully be off when you graduate.
