I'M BRACED!
My appointment was at 10 this morning. I took an Aleve about an hour beforehand.
The assistant pulled out my spacers (OUCH!) and basically, my teeth weren't "hurting" because the spacers didn't do anything! LOL! My molars were all very tight and she couldn't get the bands in. But boy oh by did she try! She tried several times in each quadrant, for over 30 minutes total. It hurt so badly. I was sweating and near tears. She ended up getting bands onto just two lower molars and my ortho decided to bond everything else.
I'm not full on all the jargon so I don't know high level detail about my braces. I have ceramic uppers (front 8 teeth). He put a "lighter wire" on this time and a heavier one will go on at next months appointment. I didn't know that I wasn't getting lowers put on today. He said we'd do those in 4-9 months depending on how quickly the top teeth respond.
I was there for just under 2 hours. My first attempted meal was a cod filet and fries from Culver's (My husband LOVES Culver's!). I couldn't eat the breading and basically just picked the fish out of the breading. I ate some fries quite easily. I haven't eaten anything sense though and that was at 2 o'clock! I'm just not hungry. I have that slight nauseous feeling and my head hurts. My teeth don't *hurt* but they feel really tight and the pressure is there.
My journey begins!
P.S. - I got my WaterPik too!

Re: I'M BRACED!
One thing I forgot to mention, and maybe people can help me out...
He said he is going to over-correct my teeth a bit. What does this mean?
He said so while he was checking the bonding of the first half and honestly, by the time I was able to speak again, I forgot.

Hi MrsCharisma,
Welcome to the club. I think that we a midline diastema that's about the same size so I'll be interested in following your progress to see how you do!
I got my braces three months ago to the day but I haven't seen many changes yet in the way my teeth look. I got a new wire at my last appointment on January 14th so I am expecting to start seeing some changes soon.
I'm sorry but I don't know that answer to your question about over-correcting. Maybe someone else on the forum will respond to it.
Best of luck to you and stay with us. You've found an amazingly supportive community. I would have been lost in the beginning without the folks from this forum.

Re: I'M BRACED!
Yay! Congratulations!! I'm sorry, I don't know what overcorrecting is either And don't worry, your appetite eventually comes back. I lost all interest in food for a couple of weeks but it slowly crept back in I think it's just the newness of it all and having to get used to having something else in your mouth when you're trying to chew (and I find chewing with them in kind of difficult). Fingers crossed for little or no pain for you!

Congratulations! I will be following your journey closely. Please make sure you do updates
Your teeth look so much like mine. I wonder, maybe I should get the ceramic tops like you did... they look good on you.
I am going for my consultation tomorrow, so excited/scared!

Re: I'M BRACED!
Thank you everyone!
As I was leaving, he said to me, "You should see some cool changes pretty quickly. I think you'll be happy". So I've got my fingers crossed for quick movement!

Re: I'M BRACED!
Congratulations! I'm sorry to hear you had such a rough time getting the molar bands on. I does sound painful -ouch! I didn't have much interest in food either for the first week or so but that has certainly changed. I find the breading on things difficult too but other foods that I thought would be difficult, have been easy.
I was alsoo told it would be 4-6 months before I get lower braces but because my upper teeth have moved so quickly, I'll be getting then next month which will be 3 months so i'm happy!

Re: I'M BRACED!
He is planning to push the teeth a little further than simple correction to account for the rebound that always happens. When it's all done, the teeth will be positioned correctly, although you're going to think he overdid it. Don't get frustrated if you don't see results as fast as you'd like. I didn't notice anything significant until almost four months into it. I was ready to give up. However, when my teeth started moving, they moved quick.
Your mouth and lips have the most beautiful shape! I can't wait to see the end result!

That's awesome Ciara!
Aww, thank you OldBikerBag. And thanks for the explanation of the over correction. That makes sense

I LOVE it and don't understand why everyone doesn't own one! Lol! It's the greatest thing ever and I'm considering getting one for my kids for their bathroom.
