Six-month smile - De-bracing estimates

#1 Post by peppy »

I've been reading around the posts on here about 6MS and I'm really interested in what estimated time is given by orthos in comparison to how long it actually takes. I've seen a few cases where it’s severe enough to be quoted 8-10 months and they are done within 5 or 6. Is this normal? I've been quoted 9 months but I have a tooth that needs quite a bit of encouragement to move forward. I know this isn't long in comparison to some people but it's a long time to wait when it's affecting your career... so obviously I'm anxious for things to happen quickly.

For those who have completed 6MS, was your estimate correct?

Thanks

Hi there. I was estimated 12-18 months. 18 months was last September. No idea when they will be coming off. Still as long as the job is done right in the end.

Is Six Month Smiles the orthodontic equivalent to the restaurant whose foot long sandwich is only 11 inches? (Yes I know the name, just dont know the posting rules). It seems like most people that post estimates for this product seldom get them off after only six months.

I thought 6 month smiles were quicker because they work on the cosmetic movement mainly of the social 6 rather than all the teeth, jaws and bite, but correct me if I'm wrong.

That's right starfish88. It only corrects your arch and doesn't address bite issues. Thankfully I don't currently have any bite problems (thanks to lengthy treatment as a teenager), just some crowding with my front teeth. Most people seem to have 6 month treatment times but they quote 4-9 months as the average span on months.

I guess I'm wondering, of people who have completed treatment and were quoted longer than 6 months, if they ended up having them off sooner?

I know everyone's different... I guess I'm just a bit excited to have straight teeth!
