I just had my braces put on yesterday and my front teeth and 1 back tooth is give me terrible pain. Will this last the whole time or will it get better? I took pain meds and used oral gel but it is still very painful. any advice??

I just had my braces put on Tuesday. When I wake up in the morning, I find my mouth is most sore. When I push my tongue against my teeth, it feels like a ton of pressure, and my teeth ache. But as the day progresses, it gets less and less sore. I suggest staying hydrated. Yesterday was worse for me than today. I imagine it gets better with time. That's all I've got - I hope you feel better soon!

NSAIDs are really excellent for reducing dental pain to at least the point where it is tolerable. If one isn't working, you should probably try another since some of them vary a bit in their mechanism of action. Your pharmacist can provide guidance (of course as well as your orthodontist).

It will pass! The first week or two is the hardest part. I found that even when my teeth stopped being quite that sore (and they were SORE-even bumping my bite together slightly sent shockwaves of pain through my whole mouth) they'd still hurt when I tried to chew or ache afterwards for a while. But it does move on (then sometimes you'll just get random teeth that hurt from time to time but nothing like those first days). Painkillers, soft food and rest up as much as you can. Feel better soon.

I still get random twinges in my teeth, sometimes they really hurt but then it stops and the twinge moves to another tooth in a few days! Right now my bottom teeth around my spring really feel sensitive but I hope it won't last too much longer because I'll hopefully lose the spring next adjustment.
