My powerchains are disgusting...

#1 Post by furious george »

And the ortho has been closed all week.

Would it be totally not okay to take these suckers off for the weekend, provided I go in on Monday morning to get them replaced? I'm not one to mess around with my treatment, but holy hannah are these things yellow. I'm tempted to wash my mouth out with bleach. :FeelSick:

No? Yes? Emphatic no?

They're so gross.

My powerchain is also disgusting. Stupidly stained yellow from turmeric the day after I had it put on. It's on for six weeks but as it's at the bottom I don't think it's too noticable so I'm leaving mine for the full six weeks.
I personally wouldn't take it off, especially as you only have to wait till Monday to get it changed. It's really up to you though. Do what works for you!

No - leave them on! You will lose ground if you take them off. They won't be noticeable to other people.
1st Feb 2012 - extraction both upper 2nd premolars
Braced 9th March 2012 - lower metal fixed and upper removable plate
5th September 2012 - bite plate gone, upper ceramic fixed fitted
Estimated treatment time 18-24 months

Mine were also gross in the last week or two leading up to a wire change. It made me too self conscious, so I've switched to silver, which does kinda defeat the purpose of having clear brackets, but nearly everyone noticed I had them from day one anyway.

I have to report that my turmeric stained powerchains are much better now. Cleaning does help! As mine are due to be changed next week it's not much good now but it's good to know they can be cleaned.

One of the dental rinses I use is mainly hyrdrogen peroxide which seems to be holding staining at bay. It's a Crest product, one of their whitening rinses.
