Well....afters years of dragging my heels.....
I'm getting my braces put on on the 16th april!
I have wanted this for soooo long and i'm finally doing it! I have only posted on here once and that was 5 years ago! (I'm a regular reader)...when I go back and read that first post I realise just how low I was feeling at the time It's taken me years to get my act together and finally do this...I've also had alot going on in my life the last few years but now i'm doing something for myself and it's going to make a huge difference to my life....so my braces journey has at last begun!!
I'm 39 and I know if I don't do this now I will probably never do it. I found a great Orthodontist very close to where I live. At my consultation he said he could probably get my top teeth aligned in about 6 months! I was so shocked when he said this...maybe they are not as bad as I'd thought!....Top teeth braced first then he wants to see how they straighten up before putting the bottoms on. I thought I would get top and bottom on together....anyway...I'm getting ceramic on top and metal on the bottoms....he said I'd probably have to have a tooth out at the front on the bottom YIKES! bit worried about that...luckily my bottom teeth don't show very much so hopefully it won't be too noticeable!
So, on the 16th april at 9.15am I'll be sitting in that chair waiting to be all braced up...they'll take some photo's first and molds and then it'll take around 20 mins to get them on...pretty quick huh?! anyway...I'm going to need the support of you fellow braced people over the next few months...I know it will be tough at times...you seem like a good bunch and really supportive of each other so I hope I can help some of you through it too.
Oh....My husband is a Mayor...(Not as glamorous as it sounds and it's more his thing than mine although I try to be supportive!) He finishes this role in may but next month we have a St George's Day dinner to host on the 20th.....yep...I will have been braced 4 days!...didn't think that one through properly did I?! Going to be feeling sore and just a little self conscious....Oh well....might as well just get on with it...I'll have a few glasses of wine and i'll be fine!
Looking forward to making new friends and hearing some of your stories.....bye for now!

Hi there! I'm getting braced on the 8th of April at 3.20pm. I'm getting upper clear damons and lower metal and as you said I'm getting the top ones first then see how it goes until the bottom ones are on. My ortho said the appointment to get braced will only take 30 minutes!! It just dont seem long enough does it? But they are the experts I guess. Look forward to chatting about all things braces soon : )

Kezza, Good luck to you. I know it's hard to believe, but when you go to that dinner the only one who will be concerned about your braces is you. No one else will care and very few will even notice.

I think braces are rather fashionable. I might actually miss them....

Welcome to the board and yay for having a brace date

Congratulations on taking the plunge!
Hope your appointment goes well and that you won't have much trouble at the dinner. You may be one of the lucky ones and not have much pain and discomfort.

Good for you on finally taking the plunge. You won't regret it, I'm sure.
I agree completely with Plugnickel and his posting.... the only one who will probably notice at your dinner will be you. Most people are far too involved in their own lives to even take notice of another person let alone notice something like braces. Go for it and don't look back. You'll always be glad you made this decision. In the meantime, you've found a very caring and supportive community who will help you get through the worst of it.
Good luck and let us know how it went!

Re: Well....afters years of dragging my heels.....
I have wanted to get braces for 5 years, it was just never in the budget. FInally I Just had to do it, I said, enough is enough and I have todo it, we figured up financially we can do it and I am just so thrilled I get braced in 12 days (not counting or anything) .... I am nervous yet just thrilled about getting it overwith. Right now I am just getting tops... unless something drastically changes I will not get bottoms they are a teeny bit overcrowded but my ortho said I have such a great bite (from previous orthodontics) that he doesnt think I will require them... although I do have a bit of overcrowding he said when I smile and talk he cant see them so he doesnt suggest I do it.. anyways so welcome to the boards.

Thanks so much for all the replies!
I'm so excited to finally get them on...3 weeks and 3 days to go! Don't think I'll be sleeping much the night before!
I was looking through the patient pack that my Ortho gave me and inside was a leaflet for InVu Aesthetic Braces...so I guess this is the type I will be having....they don't look too noticeable at all

Good luck with your treatment! I'm getting them on the 19th after 6 months of X-rays, moulds, and planning.
