Changes to facial features

#1 Post by paulas1 »

Has anyone noticed their facial features changing slightly, jawline, cheekbones, etc?

I've only had my 6ms on for 3 months but I think that even with my mouth closed, my face is looking marginally more attractive than before! Must be an additional perk on top of the straight teeth!!

I had an ugly face for a while when people told me that I lost a lot of weight when I didn't. I think it was due to my seven tooth extraction and my face looked sunk in. Now that I am getting close to the final line, I think my face looks better than before I had braces. I think I have a better defined jaw line and my profile is a lot better because I hardly have overjet. But I will find out if I really look good as I think, when I see my friends who don't know I am going through orthodontic treatment after my braces are off. My DH says that he doesn't see any changes even when I felt my face was ugly.

I had very sunken in cheeks and very defined cheek bones (which I actually liked quite a lot).

I know have more chubby, full cheeks. A bit like a chipmunk. I've only had my braces for a few days but it has completely changed my bite and I think that's changed my face shape.

I noticed that my chin is more pointy now and face is a bit longer, which I like because before I had no chin and super square face!

I have already noticed changes and I am only braced for short of a month. Since my back molars meet now, my face is more in balance, with the chin a bit more square. A definate improvement.

Yes! I had no idea this would happen. My husband has noticed it, too. It's hard to describe the changes but they are there and for the better. :D

The original position of my teeth caused my bottom lip to stick out further than the top and it looked awful! Now my lips line up properly and I no longer have ugly lines from the corners of my mouth down my chin when I smile. I am pleased. :)

Now this is interesting. I asked my ortho about this during my consult visit. He said he's heard a lot of people have changes in their facial structure due to the braces. I was wondering if it would happen to me. I get my braces on June 21st and I'm kind of excited to see the end result.

My cheeks definitely look more taut now. A few years before braces, I was doing these facial exercises where you use your finger to pull the cheek out and then use the cheek muscles to pull against it for resistance. It really did make a difference but you have to keep up on it, which I didn't. I'm wondering if the tension from the elastics is creating the same effect. Just a guess, I don't know for sure. I haven't had extractions.
Class II moderately deep overbite, mild crowding.
Braced on January 19, 2011. Debraced on December 16, 2013.
2 years, 11 months in braces.

On the Damon website it calls it "THE DAMON SYSTEM BRACELIFT"

YOUNG AND OLD, MALE AND FEMALE, THE DAMON SYSTEM DELIVERS
REMARKABLE RESULTS.
The Damon System is based on a unique treatment philosophy that goes beyond straight teeth. Damon Doctors are trained to take the whole patient into account: the shape of your face, your profile, what you will look like into your 40s, 50s… and beyond.

Many people see a noticeable change not just in their teeth, but in their entire face. They call it the Damon System Bracelift™—and it produces:

A fuller, wider smile
Better facial balance and aesthetics
Smoother cheek contours which make narrow smiles look fuller and more inviting
Fewer dark triangles within the corners of your mouth
Straighter, less crowded & crooked teeth
Improved profiles…for a more youthful look at any age!
Many patients begin to see these dramatic results in as little as 10 weeks.

ONE ADULT'S STORY...
For Sherry, it wasn't only about straightening her teeth…it was about turning back the clock for a more youthful appearance…and it changed her whole face. Her smile became wider and fuller—the appearance of dark triangles at the corners of her mouth disappeared. In just a matter of months, she had a more youthful look and a whole new outlook on life. The Damon System actually changed her entire face. It was almost like a face-lift.

When it comes to looking better, many adults today are opting for extensive—and invasive—procedures like plastic surgery and facelifts. But many people—like Sherry—have chosen to change their looks and their lives with the Damon System Bracelift™.

They talk about it here: http://damonbraces.com/treatment/adult.php

Yes it is true, your teeth supports the soft tissues of the face. Usually crowding tends to "dish" the face inwards and braces have the magic to "plump up" the face. Think of it as a chemical free treatment unlike Botox.

cheers!

I once lost quite a bit of weight due to wisdom teeth extraction, and my facial profile was a bit more defined - slimmer face and more pronounced chin. I normally have a square jawline. However, when I gained my weight back, my face was square again.

Now that I have braces, it's almost been two months. I only lost a few pounds this time. However, my face has definitely become more shapely and less square. My bite has drastically improved, which causes my face to look more v-line, rather than square.

no change for me. But logically there should be with such changes. I would think that when the brackets come out the mouth will feel a whole lot of smaller and the face should look a bit different since u can feel there is a push the brackets are doing at least ot he lips.

I keep hoping I will look like Robert Redford when this is all over but apparently that is not going to happen according to my ortho. What a rip-off
