Hello all, just wanted to post to get started on the board... At 48 years old I start a 18-20 month process of braces next week.... spacers on July 8th and braces (ceramic upper, metal lower) on July 18th. Will be a very new experience for me and yes I admit I am quite nervous about it. I look forward to having a place that I can come to in order to gain advice and share experiences.

Hi and welcome! I am 38 and just got braced last week so I will be a month ahead of you. This board is wonderful when you have issues or just to 'be around' braced adults.

51 year old Nana about to jump into this mouth first! Treatment plan is 3 years!! I have overbite, cross bite, and open bite. Now that I have had four teeth extracted, I have two teeth in the back that match up for chewing. Eating is interesting but not as interesting as it will get I suspect. Have you noticed that eating is much better when it is a full mouth experience? I go tomorrow to orthodontist for more impressions. They said it would be 3-4 weeks then before I'll get started but I wonder about spacers. Think I might get those tomorrow?
Regardless, I'm ready to get the show on the road and am glad to have y'all (I'm from Southern u.s.) to share pains and gains with. We can do this! Right?

Thanks everyone, the is so encouraging to know that I am not a lone adult going through this. I will most certainly use the board for sharing and supporting as well as looking for support and knowledge.

Yes, Helly, extractions make it very real. Since I made the decision to do that step, I've found myself to be at peace with the whole process. Hope you get along we'll with yours.
Final impressions today and I have a brace date of July 29th. Had good checkup at dentist along with cleaning. My extraction sites have healed well, they said, so they wished me well and sent me on my way. The countdown begins!!

HI, I'm in my 20's, and have just started the process of getting braces. I require upper and lower braces for 18-24 months and jaw surgery. I'm a bit nervous but beyond excited to get started!

Hi, I'm 46 and have been in braces for two months. No idea how much longer to go but would guess around 18 months. I'm really enjoying every aspect of the process and had the same feelings of nervousness and doubt as everyone else here has had. I have metal brackets and have had no issues at all to date. Good luck.
