Fastest time from consultation to braces?

#1 Post by Tqz »

What is the fastest anyone has gone from going in for a consultation to getting braces?

I was just thinking that if I went in for a consultation and liked what I heard, could I just get it done and on before I had time to think?

Like ripping off a bandage.

I wouldn't recommend it. You should probably get more than one consultation and do records/molds/xrays so they can develop a treatment plan. I know people have started on-the-spot treatment without that stuff but the choice is up to you.

Good luck!

I was trying for the same thing, the waiting kills me! I had a consult done and was set for braces 18 days later...

Not a good idea though to speed this up as Drs need to plan the treatment well, and plus you want the best price, best results and most importantly an ortho you can talk and feel on the same page with.

Hang in there, I am in the same boat! Look around. You'll get braces eventually.

Yes, you can totally do that if the ortho is comfortable with it!

Mine offered and I said no just because I needed to move money around.

My time from consultation to braces was 14 days

My consultation was on a Tuesday after work and I was braced about 40 hours later on Thursday morning. If I didn't do it that soon, I would've chickened out.

I should also note that I was not shopping around. I knew this was the only ortho around I would trust with my teeth.

DO get the x-rays and initial consultation - the X-rays are really important to ensure your outcome is successful and measures bone/jaw and also checks teeth etc that no one can check by 'looking'.

Other than that (after you have seen and agreed to the treatment plan and prices) go for it!

I can remember trying to 'ignore' the appointment I had made, and wanting to chicken out the week before it was all happening (extractions and braces on in same day), and I had support from my partner (i.e. driving me to make sure I got there and didn't just go into hiding! Heheheh  )

Three and a bit months in, I LOVE the changes. Its just a matter of sitting through the first 2 months when your teeth are still crooked and at the stage where they don't look so nice, and trusting you will come out better off. It IS worth it!

I think I was just about 2 weeks from consultation to bracing. I felt really comfortable with my Ortho though, and my case is pretty easy, so I didn't do a lot of detective work.

@SunshineRay, I bet I have you beat! But in all actuality, it took from I believe mid-October of last year to June 24, 2013 from initial consultation to get both of my arches braced. Yes, 8 months, believe it or not. Granted, I'm an atypical case (needed SARPE surgery for a crossbite and narrow upper arch, went to an orthodontic clinic at a dental school whose communication isn't always the best, needed to work around my school schedule and full-time job, etc etc). But admittedly, there were times when I wanted to scream in frustration at how slowly the process was going.

I was braced within 4 weeks of my first consultation. I had my x-ray and impression taken at that appointment, one more appointment 3 weeks later so they could take another impression for my TPA bar, and a week later my braces were on. The treatment plan was posted to me about a week after the first appointment, and since I knew I was going to go ahead with it, took the signed forms with me when I got braced, instead of posting them back and waiting longer.

I'm surprised at how fast some people get them on! Same day seems almost to fast but I guess these are other straight forward cases, or they don't do anything major in the first weeks anyway so might as well start straight away and get the commitment? I don't know.

My case was a bit different because I'm getting treated at a regional clinic with just one visiting ortho every few weeks, so they have to control the flow of new patients to maintain a workable schedule I guess.

My first consultation was a chat, I was then asked to return a few weeks later with x-rays which I had to get done elsewhere and bring in. At this appointment their were photos and a mould taken. Then he went away and discussed my case with his colleagues to decide the best treatment. I then had to go back and talk about my options and commit to the treatment plan. Then come back for to have the braces and first wire put on.

All up this would of been a 4 or 5 month experience, which I was impatient the whole time but I did appreciate the time the took. Like I said I think it was just that they couldn't take on every new patient straight away and it was over Christmas and new year so I guess the clinic may have closed or slowed down over that period.

Its the only clinic within 4 hours drive so obviously I had no choice and the people are friendly and they do good work and no problems now getting an appointment every 4 weeks.

At my consultation I had my xrays and moulds done. My case is simple and just braces. But due to a medication I was on....I had to be off the med for 2 months. So I think I am under the 20 day mark...and believe or not....I am getting nervous about it!! :yikes:

my ortho was very thorough- my initial consult in November included molds, xrays, thorough exam, and photos, along with a long chat with the ortho- 2 weeks later we discussed treatment plan and cost. My recommended treatment plan included getting some underlying dental issues taken care of before getting braced on April 2. Had I not had underlying issues (1 root canal, 1 deep scaling with flap procedure and osseous surgery on 2 quads- and time to heal) I could have had my braces on before christmas.

I wasn't shopping around as my ortho is the best in the area.
