Hi everyone! I got my bottom braces today! It hasn't been so bad yet. Eating is a little uncomfortable, and food seems to really gather in the bottoms! So glad to be fully braced finally!

Congrats... im looking forward to getting the bottom soon. Im totally new to braces, why do they wait to do bottom usually? my apologies for the dumb question.

Thank you both! My ortho said he likes to do the braces in steps bc to do them all at once would be more painful, and harder to eat. Also I needed my upper teeth to seperate a little bit . My jaws and even my ears feel a little sore today

My ortho does all his patients in phases, he says it would be too painful, and making eating very hard. Most of his patients are teens though, and don't know what pain is, lol. I told him I could handle it, I have a high pain tolerence but he wouldn't do them all at once. He said my upper teeth also needed to seperate a little bit so the bottom races would fit.

What kind of braces do you have? (Ceramic, metal, lingual, etc)

I have metal top and bottom, I thought about getting clear but was afraid of staining . I drink a lot of coffee!.and they would only do clear on top, and I wanted them to match. I made the right choice for me! What kind are you going to get?

i'm new to braces like you, and only my top ones have been put in. my bottom ones are going in next visit. i'm glad because of the work being done; i'm not too happy because it's been such a pain with just the top ones eating and stuff. i have a tiny mouth so even with the top ones, i'm experiencing discomfort closing my mouth.

i've got ceramics so at least it's not too obvious Looking :)

I THINK I'm going to get ceramic on top and metal on the bottom. I don't drink any pop or coffee , so I'm not too worried about staining. My concerns are that ceramic is supposed to be "weaker" and the brackets are a little bit larger. I have my next ortho appt on Aug 19th. I'll be getting spacers (which I'm kinda scared of) and finalizing everything. I plan to look closely at the models they have there again and make the final decision.

Congratulations! I hope you are doing ok. I got my bottom braces in March but got the top ones 4 months earlier. It took 4 months for my my bite to open up. Oh, I have ceramic top and bottom. I've had no problems with staining because I have metal ties rather than elastic ligatures. The brackets themselves don't stain, only the elastic ligatures.

Thank you all, Ciara, I wish I would have known the brackets didn't stain I might have went with the clear. My ortho told me clear are not as strong as metal, and he recommended metal. O well, I feel like I'm getting the braces experience I should have gotten as a teen! I have a small mouth too so if clear are bigger it probably wouldn't have worked very well with me.getting the bottoms for me seemed a little easier than the tops, they don't feel as awkward as the tops felt. The only problem i having is flossing, the braces seem to have squeezed 3 of my lower teeth together and now I can't floss between them. I know this is temporary, and I'm going to buy a waterpik sometime this weekend. The spacers are a bit uncomfortable, but its like a quick pinch during, and after it feels like a piece of food stuck in your teeth, you get used to it though. I had trouble closing my mouth after my tops, and back braces, but you do adjust fast. Thank you all, and good luck with your treatments!

Hello everyone, just wanted to say I've adjusted well to my bottom braces, have not noticed a change yet, but no discomfort! And I got a waterpik, absolutely love it! Don't know how I ever.lived without it!

How long until anyone noticed changes on their bottom teeth?
