Two call me mom and one calls me Nana. Tomorrow is my brace day. Great family vacation came to an end today so I'm nicely tired from the trip and expect to rest well. Truly I feel no great anxiety about tomorrow. I could feel vastly different 24hours from now. Stand by for an update sometime post-appointment.

Awesome...it should go well, it did for me. I was calm, too, and nothing untoward happened. The appointment took longer than expected so had to be patient but I was on the whole cool as a cucumber. It sounds as if you will be, too! Go Nana!

Well, as I reported to my husband and grown children, I didn't gag, swallow any of the equipment or cry, so I'm counting that as a victory! Getting the braces on took about an hour, including the cleaning instructions. Toughest part, for me, was keeping my cool when assistant rinsed stuff off my teeth and added two MORE things to mouth! I kept it together and my personal panic passed quickly. Brackets came on little plastic trays and were put in all at once (upper and then lower) and then she used that special light to activate the glue. After all brackets were secure, then she had to PRY a layer of the plastic liners off my teeth. She huffed and she puffed and used up all her strength (honestly) and called another assistant over who got them off with just a little more effort. Just part of the process.
I got all clear brackets and was pleased when I first looked in the mirror. The braces are not immediately noticeable so having made this choice, I'm so glad about that.
Taking from comments I have read here, I went to lunch immediately after. It felt very different. Had to brush and Waterpik when I got home!
As for discomfort, I have taken my second dose of ibuprofen but haven't had anything just unbearable yet -- hope I don't, of course. I will say, though, that I can certainly tell that something is already going on!!! Stuck some wax on one prickly spot. Immediate relief.
Back to work tomorrow after being off 10 days. I plan to just let folks find out for themselves rather than call attention to my new hardware.
So glad to get this process underway and appreciate everyone's support and encouragement. I'm not sure I could have made the decision to do this without all I've learned here.
Till next time...

Your experience sounds almost identical to mine except mine took almost four hours (crowns!) and I got metal brackets. I remember a few brief panic moments as well--it is hard to turn all that over after all these years. What are your main goals with ortho? Mine are crowding, overbite and overjet, and misaligned bite.

Hi, Im 33 and wanted a nice smile for as long as i can remember....I finally get my brace on Friday...got real mixed emotions about it...I am excited for the end result, but, nervous about getting the brace put on, i suppose im worried about other people's reaction... I am already considering cancelling my social outings for the forseeable ha :-/.....

Clairelouise: I went straight to the dollar store for things on my list. That was best thing for me, to just make myself go and be around other people. (To each his own, I'm sure).

Isthistaken: goals are to correct big open bite, overbite and cross bite. I could get a fat pencil between my uppers and lowers, have only two teeth that bite together, and have a terrible time with corn on the cob.

Glad to say I am almost two hours past time to take more Tylenol and don't feel the need for it right now but will probably take a dose before bedtime. I'm just so thankful.

Sounds like a serious bite problem that you are correcting, good for you. Only two teeth that touch and people actually wonder why adults get braces? Same reason adults get casts if they have broken legs.
