What toothpaste and mouthwash are you using?
I am curious what toothpaste and mouthwash you are using. I am having a hard time finding toothpaste that doesn't "whiten".
I have been using the tube that was in my dental kit from the orthodontist, but I just read it and it says it is WHITENING too. I understand that to be a no-no, so not sure why it was in the kit he gave me.
At home I've been using a regular Colgate - it does not appear to have any whitening in it.
Sorry if this is a topic already, I can't figure out how to search topics.

I use regular colgate as well and ACT Mouthwash. (The green one)

I think whitening toothpaste is okay, as long as it isn't too abrasive, and I personally wouldn't use it more than a couple of times a day.
I use Prevident 5000 Sensitive (a prescription high-fluoride toothepaste), and generic listerine mouthwash. (Note: Don't even think about using Listerine if you have current mouth sores from adjusting to braces... yowza!)
You want to avoid high-abrasivity toothpastes (I think Google may be able to help out there; "smokers" toothpastes would probably be the worst offenders), and any mouthwash with CPC (Cetyl Pyrindium Chloride.) CPC is well-known to cause staining.

I use plain old Crest throughout the day, I think it might be whitening but I've been using it since way before braces so I'm not too worried about it. At night I use this prescription fluoride toothpaste my ortho gave me. I guess it has different concentrations of fluoride than the OTC fluoride rinses.

My orthodontist recommends VitaMyr Zinc Plus toothpaste with Xylitol. It is an all natural fluoride free, sugar free, low-abrasive toothpaste. The main ingredients are: Zinc, Folic Acid, Clove and Myrrh, Grapefruit Seed extract and CoQ10. It is a bit 'spicy' in taste vs. the 'sweet' of most toothpastes. It works well.
Personally, I have switched up my toothpaste throughout my treatment.

Colgate toothpaste and Listerine mouthwash. You're okay as long as you don't get the ones that are super whitening. I look to make sure whitening is down the list in terms of what they do. Whatever you do, do not use the Crest Pro Health line of toothpaste or mouthwash! It turned my adhesive a wicked yellow and it's taken a while to fix it. I didn't know and then when I googled it, there are tons & tons of complaints. It has to do with the main ingredient - begins with a C but I can't remember the name of it. There is actually a lawsuit against Crest as it has discolored many people's teeth and taken away their taste. I hate the Listerine but it has worked really well for me as an alternative.

Thanks for all of the responses! I guess I should not worry so much about the "whitening" that the toothpaste says it does. I guess I worry about taking my brackets off in 2 years and having little yellow squares!
