Hi everyone, I'm currently in the process of investigating braces and came across this site.
I love reading and looking at everyone's before and after, reading about pain, what to do to help, what to eat etc, so thanks for all the info.
I've had a free consult and need one extraction, but first need to go to a surgeon as there was a mysterious something's in my jaw. Hopefully nothing.
I'm then going away for a week so will wait until I get back.
Getting very excited about having straight teeth, even though I'm going to be old with braces ;-)

Have you decided on the sort of brackets you'll be going with?

You are not old...or not the oldest. I'm 51 + 1 and I've seen others on here who are older so mark that off your list.

. This board is an excellent resource and place to ask questions, vent and rejoice. Good luck to you as you bein your journey.

Thanks everyone.
While I have you here just a question that came up while talking to a friend.
Her daughter needs braces and said that her dentist doesn't do clear (I'm guessing damon or mine are actually going to be empower) anymore as the wreck the teeth when taking them off.
Anyone heard of this or had this happen to them?
She told me to suss it out.
I'm going to an orthodontist over my normal dentist (I think) mainly because it emotes and my old dentist will be an hour away as opposed to 15mjns. Hope I'm doing the right thing.

Apteryx I'm going with empower clear on top 8 and then metal for the rest up top and bottom.

Good luck! They're good looking brackets. I'm hoping to go with clear brackets on the top too.

You're not old! I'm 47 and first time in braces. You're in great company here.
And on the question of clear brackets and tooth damage ... from the research I've done this was a problem in the past, however, newer technology and technique has changed this quite a bit and it's not a problem. I would, however, encourage you to ask your ortho about their experience removing the clear brackets just to be sure they've done it tons & tons of times and are very confident and skilled at doing it. I've had brackets removed and repositioned with no issue.

I'm 49 and have clears on top, metal on the bottom. Looking at a 15-18 month stretch. First adjustment scheduled for 10/16. I will HOPEFULLY have mine off by my 51st birthday.
