2nd adjustment?

#1 Post by agrace90 »

I have my second adjustment on Tuesday and am wondering what to expect. I'd love to hear about everyone else's experience. Maybe especially those with Damon's. :) I have elastics in my future but not sure when I will get them. I'm excited for changes but not too sure about pain. Thanks!

I find 2 Tylenol about an hour before my appointment helps a lot. I always have my ortho appointments in the morning so I keep up with it for the rest of the day. I have some discomfort for about 48 hours and have to ease up on food that requires more chewing like steak or pork chops. It usually subsides after the 2nd day and it's never been too painful, usually just a tooth or two has actual pain. The rest is just that discomfort or pressure feeling.

No Damon's...I had really uneventful adjustments the first few months. I go every 4 weeks. Initially we just changed upper wires and ligs when I went in. I'm almost on month 9(??) and still not in elastics. I have a full powerchain on my upper arch which I'll likely have for awhile yet.

I had lots of pressure and a little soreness most of the time...very little pain.

I think at my August adjustment I got a reverse curve wire for the lower arch along with a full powerchain on the upper.
Oh. My. Goodness. I was popping pain killers for days. I think I ended up leaving work early the day after that adjustment. Sheesh.

Be sure to let us know how it goes.

I'll be onto my third adjustment in a couple weeks. Traditional ceramic top, metal bottom, with wire ties not elastics.

When I first got them put on I couldn't eat for about 4-5 days several days after they got put on. Ibuprofin works wonders. The second adjustment was a few days before my best friend's wedding and I was the best man. I was so worried I wasn't going to be able to eat because they upped the wire size on top and really sinched the wire down on the bottom with the wire ties. But there was barely any soreness or pain at all! I don't imagine I'll be sore really for the rest of my treatment... However my teeth are "relatively" straight compared to most, I just have a really bad crossbite and asymmetry so my most significant improvements will be made via surgery.

Thanks guys for your stories. For the rest, I will definitely update after as well. If anyone else has any experience they would like to share please do. I know we are all different and have different cases but I think it's interesting to see the different progressions in each of us! :)

i had my 2nd adjustment two weeks ago (metal top and bottom). I imagined my teeth would be as sensetive as the first time i got braces but it wasnt. Took about 10 minutes to change my ligs and re tighten my wires. Couldnt bite down using my front teeth for 2 days, but wasnt as bad as the first time i got braces installed.
