Braces Price Question
Hi all. I'm new to the site, I've been reading up as I am myself getting braces next month...
I have a question. I'm 20, and I live in Australia, and my treatment is going to be over a period of 2 years, I'm also getting fitted with a quad helix. My braces cost is in the 7K price point. I've contacted several orthodontists and they all tell me that 7K is a pretty reasonable amount to pay. I should say, this cost does cover the retainers and all of the little details
I would really like to know your thoughts on this price. To me it seemed rather excessive.

Re: Braces Price Question
Mine are $6,850
No head gear or expanders. Just regular braces (metal), everything that involves, and my retainer when it's over. I think he also mentioned 3 years of aftercare is also included.

Re: Braces Price Question
I'm paying $5400 for everything.
X-rays, molds, braces, retainers (permanent bonded, Hawley, Essix), and some period of time after retention starts. I got clear on top for free.

Re: Braces Price Question
Location is a factor, you can't compare Sydney and Adelaide (or even Sydney CBD and Western Sydney).
8k for metal, including (bonded) retainers, and 2 years of post braces appointments.
I think it's safe to say I am using a premium practice. It's also safe to say I need a premium orthodontist. I actually expected the price to be higher.

Re: Braces Price Question
Thank you everybody who has contributed to this thread. It's really helped me a lot.
I'm also in Melbourne! Our prices are pretty close.
I'm thinking of getting ceramic brackets on my top 6 teeth and having the rest in metal, but we'll see what Mr. Ortho says. :)

Re: Braces Price Question
I'm paying 3,500 for everything (ceramic on top and metal on the bottom), but my treatment time is less than one year and I am located in small community. Best of luck. It will definitely be worth it!
Re: Braces Price Question
Mine were just under $6,000 (about 6,200 AUD)
Had Damons (ceramic upper, metal lower) from June 27, 2013 - January 20, 2015

Re: Braces Price Question
In Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Paid RM5,500 for metal upper and lower, brackets, ligs, spacers and I'm guessing retainers too. That's about USD1700. How the hell do people pay anything over USD3000? D:
Re: Braces Price Question
Overall, everything in the US costs significantly more than it would in Malaysia (and it costs even more in the UK or Australia). That's why many of our products here in the US are made in China, Taiwan, Indonesia, etc... it's so much cheaper to do things over there.FoxPass wrote:In Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Re: Braces Price Question
Yeah about 3 years ago I was quoted 7k and I was not expecting that at all so I completely skipped doing anything, not to mention I mentally couldn't see myself having braces.
Now 3 years later I am here and still had to pay that price, could have been done 2 years ago! Oh well, live and learn!
I hope you go ahead with treatment and don't put this off.

Products, I can understand. But you pay so much more for the service. I'm sure some metal and plastic won't cost a few thousand more over there than it is over here. I'm guessing doctors and orthos in the US, UK, Canada and Australia are more prone to lawsuits and have much higher insurance.
Work/study in Malaysia for a year or two and get your teeth fixed! :D
