Impressions? Did you have one?

#1 Post by Stef »

I get my braces on in 20 days! Yay! Do we all get impressions made? I haven't been told one way or another. I was just curious if the did that on brace day or if not everyone has impressions made?

Yay! It's exciting right! Congrats!

I had my impressions done about a month before my braces were actually put on. We had a mini-consultation after that to go over his plan of action, and used my impressions to show me what he was ultimately aiming for.

Have you had all your x-rays and photos taken already?

Hmmm... I can't say I've heard of an ortho that doesn't take impressions as part of the initial "records" appt. (the one where you get your x-rays taken.) The only exception would be orthos that use one of the new 3-d scanners and/or x-rays instead.

Impressions are a pretty integral part of the treatment planning process for most cases, and at the least, they provide an excellent "before" picture of your teeth.

I've lost track of how many impressions I've had taken so far as I've progressed.

I must be the odd one out! I did not have impressions taken. He only took photos. My ortho comes to my dental office a few times a month. I'm thinking he probably looked at some x-rays I had on file.

My impressions were done on my brace day. The initial records appointment involved x-rays and photos, but not impressions.

I had pictures, xrays and a 3D scan of my mouth the day I had my braces put on. My first appointment was about 2.5 hours total. Best of luck to you!!

I had impressions taken 1 week before I had my braces put on. My ortho uses the indirect method of application, so the impressions were needed to place the brackets prior to my coming in to have them placed on my actual teeth. They take the impressions, he places the brackets where he wants them on the ceramic set of teeth, then they make retainers on the ceramic teeth which encase the brackets. On the day of braces, they prep your teeth, and then they take the retainers containing your brackets and put them on your teeth. They then activate the glue on each bracket with the light, and remove the retainers. Brackets done all at one time :). Then of course comes wires and ligs :) but no need to have my mouth open for hours and hours :)

I had my records appointment with x-rays, impressions and braces put on the same day. :)

I was afraid I would back out if I didn't schedule it all at the same time! HAHA!

I had impressions done, but I have Incognito braces, so I'm not sure if they were for the doctor or so that the braces could be made. They took five impressions. (I also had x-rays done as part of my initial consultation.)

How interesting! I had digital X-rays the day of my consult but no impressions.
I was reading a post about impressions (they have flavors now?!) and I wondered what order it went in. Interesting how it differs!
