I eat whatever I want, except what's on the no-no list (chewy/hard candies, gum, pizza crust, hard breads, etc) :D Chips aren't on my no-no list so they're fair game for me lol I have eaten them with braces... heck, I even bite right into soft sandwiches 8)

Other than the first few weeks and then maybe 2 days after each adjustment, my diet hasn't changed much.

Also, this is being discussed here:

Try sugar free gum. I chew it all the time and have had no issues whatsoever and my ortho said the sticky, non-sugar-free gum is what you have to avoid.

Looking back, it was a whole apple, which I have to bite into with my front teeth.

Toasted sandwiches! Yeah! I miss toasted sandwiches too!

I really miss nuts. They were my get-though-the-afternoon snack food. I haven't found anything that works as well.

For me, it's more about the mechanics of eating that what I'm eating. Eating pizza with a knife and fork just seems wrong. Cutting an apple--or any other fruit other than bananas--into small pieces IS wrong. A quick, healthy snack is now time consuming and messy.

I've been eating more yogurt and eggs. I find store bought cookies a bit hard so I've been making cookies more often. That's probably not a bad thing. I still eat salads for lunch; I just cut the pieces smaller.

I'm not a big beef eater so dinners haven't changed too much. I eat a lot of chicken, fish, pasta, and chickpeas. However, I love barbequed steak and I haven't had one since I got braces seven weeks ago. It's not exactly barbeque season around here so I'll have to wait until May to try it.

I just miss biting into things, I can pretty much eat anything now - if I take the proper precautions and cut it up.

I'd love a BLT. Or, a Cobb salad. Haven't worked out how to eat lettuce.

Today is day 2, and right now I think I miss all foods! I even had a hard time with mashed potatoes today. Hopefully I can figure it out soon, because I'm hungry.

Maybe I'll finally lose the 10 pounds I need to lose :-)

Lettuce is easier if you avoid the main stem parts of the leaves... stick to the soft outer area of lettuce leaves

Ahh, pizza! I remember having to cut it up into pieces for the first few months that I had braces. I can say "it does get better" though, as I can eat pizza normally now.

What I truly miss is corn on the cob. I tried to cheat once earlier this year and I just had corn stuck all in my braces and it wasn't fun at all. I told my boyfriend he is taking me out to dinner where I can get corn on the cob when I get my braces off next month.

Five months in, I can eat just about anything. My ortho is a good friend, and I have made a point of eating all of her "no-no" foods in front of her. It started with her trying to get me to eat one of her kettle chips at a festival, moved on to eating popcorn next to her at the movies, and then proceeded from there. Just finished the list on Halloween by eating a mini-Snickers bar at her house. Kind of sad to have finished the challenge. That said, I don't eat some of the things lots, because it a)takes too long, and b)the clean up is a pain!
Hang in there!
