Braced one week today and my bite feels "off"?

#1 Post by Stef »

I've been braced a week today and I've noticed this afternoon that my bite is different. It it possible to have a change that soon? When I bite down, my teeth have definitely shifted in the back toward the right. I'd love to hear your thoughts and experience on this. :)

Yes, I definitely noticed a bite difference very early on. Maybe not the first week, but within the first few. I think as the mouth is so sensitive, you really notice even the slightest shift, especially in those first few weeks, when lets be honest, it all feels very strange!

My ortho does ask me to let him know how my bite changes and if it feels odd, so if you're worried, might be worth mentioning.

I had a tooth move loads in the first two weeks, is so exciting to see it happen so quick! :)

That is great to hear! I'm not worried and it's not painful, just different. It's amazing how braces work! :)

Stef it is totally normal to experience the smallest changes as the mouth is still super sensitive as you have just started your treatment. Don't worry about it, but if by your next adjustment there hasn't been any improvement just notify your ortho.

Get used to it! Figuring out where my bite is has become a weekly adventure since I started 8 nonths ago. Last week I started where my left side touched everywhere, then a few days later, my right touched everywhere but not my left, and then yet again a few days later, neither side touched again. There is a major construction project going on inside there and it will change so many times before you're through. Don't get nervous if your midline shifts around from time to time as well as your gaps either. I never had a midline issue until last week and now this week after my adjustment on Tuesday, it's already shifted back to where it needs to be. Sometimes they have to make it slightly worse for a visit or two to make room for something else they need to move around later.

My bite changed for the better within a few weeks, even with the fairly weak wire. It continues to change especially now as the lower molars are getting into the fun.Best of luck to you!

Kathydell - "major construction project" - such a great way to think about it.

Right now, only my very back molars touch each other. The rest...no. But, I have a deep overbite that's being corrected so I guess once all my teeth are where they're supposed to be I'll be able to bite again. It's very frustrating because I can't really chew anything. My jaw muscles get sore and tired if I try to eat things that are "chew heavy" like meat. Bizarre I know but I never claimed to be "normal"!

My next adjustment is the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. I'm thinking stuffing and green bean casserole will be my friends for dinner. I'm thinking of changing my bands to red and green for Christmas instead of the orange and blue I've been sporting (GO BRONCOS!).

I can't wait to get this over with so I can EAT again.
Braces off on 8/26/14 after a year!
