Has anyone experienced teeth clinching/grinding since being braced that they did not experience beforehand? I was never aware of any issues related to bruxism until I had my braces put on, now every night my teeth are clinching in my sleep so tightly that I wake up multiple times throughout the nighy due to the jaw pain :( has anyone experienced anything like this?

me! it's worse than before braces, that's for sure. I will definitely need a bite plate thingy once my braces are off to prevent this at night.

I definitely clench at night in my sleep, especially with elastics.

Yep, I've been clenching so hard that I'm seriously worried about breaking teeth, especially my back molars. I've never done this before, so I asked at my last adjustment, and was told that it's totally normal while my teeth are trying to settle into a new bite. It sucks a lot though.

I did that a lot throughout my treatment. I would wake up and be so surprised that I was clenching like that.

Not only was I clenching worse, I was catching my cheek or tongue between the teeth when I did it. I now have a seemingly permanent ridge in my cheek. I also thought the scalloping on the edge of my tongue would be there forever. I was miserable because I would clench down on my tongue so hard when sleeping that I'd wake myself up from sleep because of the pain.

My dentist said I was unconsciously trying to find a 'good' bite while I was sleeping. He worked to help me, but I had some miserable months for a while.
