Hi everyone,
I am male 32yo in Australia and have had traditional braces for 5 days now.
These forums were recommended to me and I see a lot of really good topics I am going to go and take time to read.
I have some concerns regarding my treatment but I'll get to that later after I have read through the forums a bit more.
I'll also post a photo soon.
I look forward to interacting with everyone!
Thanks for reading!

OK so, here is a picture (obviously I would normally never post a picture of my teeth with the way they look but, hey this is the place!)
As mentioned, I am 32 male and have only had braces for 5 days. Like many people, I guess, I should have had them much earlier!!!
Obviously severe crowding. I had all of my first bicuspids removed, top and bottom. I also only have on remaining wisdom tooth, lower left. It was impacting on the molar in front and caused nerve damage so, that tooth was removed and the wisdom left behind.
I have symmetrical teeth/same number on all sides lower and upper.
My orthodontist said the treatment will take 18-24 months but I am obviously expecting longer (ugh!)
Obviously once I've gone through the whole treatment and braces are off, I will get some further cosmetic work done, whitening, fixing up the chipped edges etc
Very new to all of this so I don't know much about all the technical terms...yet!
I look forward to sharing my progress with you!
Edited to add: I think I have quite "chunky" teeth lol But I'm not bothered by them.
Also, I'm a bit concerned my canines will still be quite prominent and obviously much longer than the rest. I know they are supposed to be longer but, I fear mine might be too much longer. Time will tell!

Thank you!
As I mentioned in my first post, I have some concerns about the end result.
Having had all 4 first bicuspids removed, my friend Google tells me many stories about sunken faces, dished-in profiles, bigger noses, thin lips, narrow smile as a result of extractions.
I have my first adjustment appointment with my ortho in about 5 weeks.
What are some questions I should ask regarding my front and side profiles to ensure he is pushing for the best possible result?
Also, any other experiences with this that others would like to share?

Welcome Skizzy, stay away from your friend Google regarding your braces for the next 18-24 months. Time actually goes by very quickly and you should start seeing results in a few weeks. Good luck..

Very good advise to stay away from your friend Google! Internet is full of horror stories and most probably they won't apply to you.
Just trust your ortho, I am sure you will get a wonderful end result!

Thanks for the advice. I will stay away from Google!
My mouth is starting to feel A LOT better now. Most of the ulcers are clearing up now which is great!
I'm off to visit family tomorrow for the holidays so I will see you all when I return!
