Braces at 55.. problems with bone loss.

#1 Post by dilynn1958 »

Newbie here. This is my second round of braces. Was braced on Feb 11th. It went well except for the unknown bite Turbos. He did take them off the next day…
I was disappointed that he started with the thinnest wire he could. His rational was due to bone loss and he didn't want to much force on the teeth. I have having trouble with biting down. Getting tired of yogurt and soup etc. Good thing is will be skinny with pretty teeth. I am hoping that because he is starting so slow it won't take forever. Was told 18-24 months…Anyone else have this?
Also any tricks on eating in public?

Why did he take the bite turbos off so soon? I wonder as well why some of the docs go so conservative in the beginning stages although I am sure they have their reasons. I just told my doc that I'm up fr any aggresive treatment that will help me finish sooner. He mentioned forsus springs in place of rubber bands, we shall see. Oh and btw- just had my turbos shaved down considerably and it makes a world of difference - 80% better!!

I think just about everybody gets started on the thinnest NiTi. Notice that it seems to hurt plenty even with that wire! It exerts more than enough force to get things moving.

If too much force is exerted before things are lined up, then yes, gum and bone loss can occur.
