Another Milestone

#1 Post by JillD »

I went to see my ortho for my six-month check-up after debrace. Somehow it was closer to seven months than six. Anyway she gave me OK to wear my retainers only at night, and the way she gave me OK made me believe I could have gotten this OK earlier, so I almost wanted to say "why didn't you say so sooner?"

I hated wearing any kind of removable retainers. I love food, but taking off and washing them, cleaning my mouth after eating and putting them back on, I hated all of it, so I couldn't really enjoy food when I wanted it. I always had to think about whether I had access to water to wash up. Also I don't like to eat a lot of food at one seating, but to avoid the hassle, I had to have a larger portion of food than I wanted.

Now that I don't have to do any of this, I am happy. I will have a small lunch, have a snack and coffee later whenever I want to. Another milestone for me.

Almost one year later and I'm back at the ortho tomorrow...I will probably get my bonded retainer removed and be stuck with Essix top and bottom nightly until I die...but I do like having straight teeth and getting compliments all the time!
Do you get the compliments Jill??...it's soooo cool! :-*

Wow, both of you make me feel very blessed. I got mine off last September and got the all clear to go from 24/7 with my upper and lower Essix to wearing them nighttime only at the one month mark. I've been pleased with that.

I have a modified upper Essix I wear on my upper at night. My orthodontist converted an upper Essix into a sleep splint at no additional charge. Another blessing because my last sleep splint was about $500. I wear my normal Essix for a night every week or two just to make sure it still fits, and the modified one the other nights.

Enjoy your coffee and snacking. :-88

So totally jealous.

I jus got my retainers.

Both hawley top and bottom.
I sound horrible speaking with them on. But after 1 day u can hardly tell. Lol
My mouth feels weird without some dentistry appliance in it.

So im glad to wear d retainers.

But the cleaning up is so much hassle.

But then again so aas braces and brushing my teeth after every mea. I basically cut out snacks to avoid brushing my teeth or rinsing my mouth.

So I think I'll deal wid d cleaning up okay.

Congrats on only wearing them at night. Im happy for u.

Cant wait till its me in them at night only too.
