surpassing expectations...

#1 Post by metalmomma »

When I went for my ortho consult he was adamant that he could make my teeth look better, but that I should never expect my open bite to completely close without surgery because it was due to a skeletal issue. For me, any improvement was better than how my teeth currently were... But only 3 months into treatment and I can no longer see between my teeth!!! Only One month in elastics and at my 2nd adjustment, my ortho cut my treatment from 24 months to 12 months and was beyond shocked at the progress.

I had to share this somewhere. I just can't contain my excitement!!

I am very happy for you. Have you made sure that you don't have an habits that can cause relapse such as tongue thrust? Also, make sure you wear your retainer every day after you get your braces off. And I would definitely make sure your teeth have stabilized before your braces are taken off, especially since your teeth have moved so fast. It looks like you were in a lot of rubber bands very early on.

Please continue to share your journey. I think it's awesome that you are seeing great results :)

Thank you futurefbi07! You brought up some great things. This is actually my 2nd round of braces since the first time I was much younger and didn't take it seriously. I NEVER wore the elastics or the retainers and my teeth shifted back after a few years. So this time I am giving it my full cooperation and following Dr orders to the letter! I'm also very confident my ortho won't remove them till he feels satisfied that my teeth are stable. I do admit it has made me very nervous at times how much wiggle they have had, but then a day later they feel sturdy again. Plus I still have quite a while to go yet even if they do end up coming off after a year.

That is awesome! I'm so happy for you. I too have been shocked at the results elastics have been able to achieve. Keep up the great work.

Congrats! I am in a similar boat. My ortho told me my open bite would never fully close without surgery, but like you I figured anything is better than nothing. My estimated treatment is 24-27 months and after 8 months it was closed more than she ever thought my end result would be! I'm 10 months in now and she hasn't mentioned a shortened treatment time though.

Congrats! Did your open bite close initially in your first set of braces?
Sentence:
28 months in full upper and lower braces, open coil spring for additional alignment space for permanent teeth to erupt, elastics to align back bite, bite turbos, and palate expander.
