In search of the best floss!

#1 Post by alicat516 »

Hello all!

I'm on a mission! I've tried a couple different flosses and they all seem to get shredded from my braces and then the little strands get stuck in my brackets. I've tried regular Reach waxed (works while the wax is there but that doesn't last long) and oral-B essential floss (which completely sucks).

Please give your opinions on the flosses you've tried. I would like something that doesn't shred into little strings, and also something that really scrapes my teeth well.

Thanks!

I have tight contacts between my teeth and so far, Oral-B Complete Satin floss has worked for me.

I agree with Jaime! I love the Oral-B Satin Floss so much! It glides between teeth so smoothly and does not fray at all! the only downside to it is it is flimsy so I use tweezers to get it under my wires. (I HATE Floss Threaders!)
Also.. I love Oral B's Super Floss. It does have a tendency to fray but it is so easier to get under the braces. I am a little than 2 weeks away from Deband, and I will continue buying Superfloss and Satin Floss after treatment because I'll have a bonded retainer and very tight contact elsewhere.

I like the Glide threader floss. Has a stiffened section about 2" long on one end that helps direct it between brackets and under wires. It stays together pretty well and is inexpensive enough.
Round 3 (lifetime) Damon stainless applied 3/16/20 (after 4 weeks attempting invisalign) On for about 18 months
Night time elastics with invisalign retainers; still...
Double jaw surgery was 6/18/15...
Orthodontics never really ends...
I'm emphatically against extraction orthodontics!

I've tried Glide and it's just too slippery for my taste. I feel like it doesn't actually do anything. I LOVE superfloss. It takes a little while to learn to pull it straight out, without wrapping around brackets, getting stuck, and shredding, but once you do, it's awesome. Like bikerchik said, super easy to thread under your brackets. Also, it has two sections to it; a more traditional type wax floss and a thicker, grippier piece that is awesome for polishing around brackets and cleaning plaque! It's almost like microfiber cloth....real grippy!

There is a great post with reviews of floss in the "Dental Doo-dads" forum. Let me find a link... http://www.archwired.com/phpbb2/viewtop ... =7&t=47070. As a result of these reviews I tried Reach floss and I like it a lot better than Glide! I agree that Glide is too slippery and doesn't feel like it's actually getting any biofilm off my teeth.

I really like the Oral-B Glide Pro Health Deep Clean Floss. It is very minty, so it makes me feel like I am getting good breath at the same time. :P

I tried the threader flossers, but I think that it is just as easy to use a floss threader... You can get 50 for 2.50 at target... You can reuse them, so it makes it very cheap!

I use bog standard Reach waxed and think it is fine. I just double or quadruple up the floss at the end and turn it with my fingers so it's stiff enough to thread through back teeth.
