Has anyone experienced this particular kind of pain during their ortho treatment?
About a week ago I had this pain come on out of nowhere while at work. I took two Motrin, which did absolutely nothing, took a third, which got me comfortable, and by later that evening I felt fine. I just assumed that maybe it was a tooth moving and didn't think much of it.
But the pain is back today, and is being more insistent. For those of you who have felt that pain, you know that there's nothing quite like it and there's no way to ignore it. Should I continue to assume that it's just pain from my teeth moving, or should I get in to be seen by my endodontist? I have an appointment for a cleaning in two weeks, but I don't really want to wait that long if there's something going on.
Any thoughts? Has something similar happened to you? I am not stoked right now.

Re: Root canal pain?
I had pain so bad I thought I had fractured my tooth. It was extreme sensitivity, throbbing pain, I could feel my heartbeat in it, etc. Is it that kind of pain? I went to an emergency appt at the dentist and got an x-ray and exam, everything looked fine. It took a week but the pain went away.
It's really hard to tell... I could have sworn up and down my pain was not related to braces in any way because it was so, so different from the "achy" pain I had usually been having. Turns out, it was related.
I'd call your dentist and see if they can see you any sooner than 2 weeks. If not, you can ask them to take a look at it then. If there is a concern they can refer you out to the endo. Good luck!

Thanks, Parsley!
The pain lasted for about a day and a half this time, and has since gone away. I'm fairly sure that it's braces-related, even though it sure doesn't feel like it at the time. I figured that someone here had experienced something similar!

Re: Root canal pain?
I had some pretty extreme pains related to movement early on in my treatment. Particularly in a rotated upper canine. Hot, cold and sweet foods/drinks would send a shooting pain through that tooth that would almost make me cry. Those pains will go away. But I would suggest using a sensitive toothpaste throughout treatment. That really helped me!

I pretty much chalk up all my tooth pain to braces. It usually goes away in 3-7 days.
