How long until bite settles?

I had my brace removed 5 days ago (yay!) and I'm picking my retainer up tomorrow. I've read that teeth can shift a little bit while you wait for a retainer, and that your bite can change a bit anyway after braces are off, but mine feels horrible! It felt fine the day my braces were removed but now it feels way off. Is this normal? Will it change back to normal once I wear my retainer and once my teeth settle down? It's driving me crazy!

Im not even close to getting mine off, but I am also worried about my bit going back once they are off. Interesting to see the answers.

You should expect your retainer to shove things back into line, since the impressions where taken as soon as the things were popped off. It doesn't take much for your bite to feel "off". This should help reinforce the idea that you should be diligent about wearing your retainer!

I'm worried about this too because my teeth shifted at my last adjustment while I was waiting for my next wire to be put in. My bite felt horrible! After only a few minutes!

it takes forever for my bite to settle down. Every time I would get my wires changed my bite would be off for a couple of days. Now, they're off...and with my retainers on, my bite is good...but when I take them out, everything feels off. I figure it'll all eventually settle down. If I'm still uncomfortable with it in a couple of months I'll go see my ortho.
