Tooth Movement Question

#1 Post by dantocanada »

Hi all,

I'm now 4 weeks into lower braces. I haven't really noticed any difference in the position of any of my teeth, but I can tell they are moving because my bite seems to keep changing. I always used to bite down on my back molars. Then it seemed like I was biting down on my fronts. Now it's my front and left side. Sensitivity also seems to come and go - some days they are more sensitive than others. But what I'm really confused about it that my top right Canine (one that is not braced) seems to be feeling sensitive now. Is all of this normal? If others have experienced similar strange sensations, please let me know.

Totally normal. My bite must have changed 15 times in the last 18 months. I didn't noticed too much movement in the first month or two and then bam. Tons of movement after each adjustment. And then things settle in and changes are much more subtle and sometimes unnoticeable. I will say be compliant with your rubber bands if you are prescribed them. They are a huge pain the butt and tough to get used to but they WORK.

It sounds normal- I had the same kinds of sensitivity the first 6 weeks or so. I was also surprised when one of my lower incisors that wasn't even connected to the archwire was sore in the first month. I guess it was the neighbor teeth movements that put pressure on the unconnected tooth. I hope things settle down for you soon!
