Orthodentist wants to take off but still not perfect teeth !

#1 Post by smileohhh »

Hello everyone, I am new to this board, I've been reading you before registering for years lol, Now I decided to take part too
Well I am an adult female, I've been wearing braces for 20 months ( I was scheduled for 18/20months) for bi protrusion and shifted middle line, now my dentist keep rushing me to take off the braces even though my teeth are still not perfect.
By the way, how do I post pictures? I want your advice
Then I want to know if fixed retainer are enough ? because my dentist will only give me fixed retainers ( those behind the teeth from canine to canine) I am wondering I need a removable since my molars won't have anything to stop them from moving

Please tell me what you think,
I still feel that they are protruding and the lower canine is off, and the upper teeth should cover more of the lower ones !

You refer to the person handling your braces as an orthodontist and a dentist. Is it an orthodontist or just a dentist?

Does he want to take them off at your next visit? Was he prepared to take them off at your most recent visit but you asked him not to?

Before you got your braces did he tell you that the result may be something like this?

Did you get jaw surgery, any extractions? Did he suggest that those operations be performed?

I'm simply wondering if this was a compromise plan, and that a better result could have been had if other procedures were performed. Because otherwise, I don't think the left side of your teeth are supposed to look like that.

He is an orthodontist
Yes during the last appointment ( for me was a usual braces appointment, but he said he was thinking to remove them and he asked me if I was satisfied, hell no, I refused, I was soo angry!!)
He never said that I had to have extraction or jaw surgery, before getting my braces on, he said that he would fix EVERYTHING without any problem
I said that the upper teeth should cover more of the lower ones, but he says they are fine, I don't think so, upper teeth should cover 1/3 of lower teeth, in my case they barely touch each other

I didn't even notice the teeth coverage, and I'm not sure how far you differ from the average or ideal. Even if you do, personally I don't think it looks bad at all (but that's obviously not relevant to whether or not he should have or could have done a better job, and maybe whether or not you're happy with it). I was looking more at your left side, where it seems like your bottom teeth are actually farther out than your top teeth.

Looks like the one side has a bit of a bite issue still. Well all I would say is don't get them off until YOU are happy, even if that means switching orthos if this ortho won't fix your teeth to your liking. Good luck.

With regards to both pics, to me that looks like a crap result. I would not be happy either.

Your teeth definitely don't look bad, but I completety understand that you are not happy with this result. It looks like you still have a bit of a crossbite (on the right side of the picture)? And I think there is still much improvement possible. Definitely talk about this to your ortho or else ask for a second opinion. It is very important that you are happy in the end! Good luck!

Your teeth don't look bad, but I would not be happy with that result either. Honestly, I'm surprised that your orthodontist is fine with that! I don't know all the details of your case though. Definitely have a talk and let him know your concerns. If necessary, get a second opinion.

I would ask if there is something more that can be done because I would not be happy with it if it were me. You paid lots of money to have your teeth fixed so you should be satified with them. I would tell him you want your bite better and to see if there is anything you can do now.
07/14/14 - 4 spacers put in
07/25/14 - braces top and bottom put in minus 2 molar bands that they couldn't fit
9/11/14 - 2 spacers put in between the bottom back molars
9/19/14 - last 2 bottom molar bands in and all hooked up, new wire, started elastics too
10/14/14 - new square wire change and thick elastics
04/24/17 - braces removed!!!

That's a wicked crossbite, and your chin does look recessed, but without knowing the specifics on your skeletal structure, this might be be best that can be done with braces alone... was surgery offered as an option?

I feel very sorry to say so, but I think your teeth looked better before the braces.....
Your ortho did not do a good job I think.
If I were you, I would definitely go for a second opinion and even swith ortho's. I would not have confidence in this ortho anymore if I were you.
You deserve the best result and I am sure your teeth can fixed much better than they are now, also without surgery. I wish you very good luck!
