Braces and health issues

Hi,

I have now had my metal braces on for 3 1/2 months. I have always had allergies to metal (nickel possibly) among other things. I did a trial run with a couple of brackets glued on and had no issues so went ahead. I have now realised that I may have an issue with these metal braces as I have had ongoing antibiotics because of acne flareups, Branchial Cleft Cyst (Ultrasound, biopsy, antibiotics) which has to be surgically removed. Now have sinus, sore throat and just feel generally unwell especially recently. Has anyone else had these same issues since having metal braces?

Thanks,

Vyvyen

Well, Dr. Wikipedia says that a Branchial Cleft Cyst is a congenital deformity leftover from fetal development, so your braces can't have anything to do with that one.

You may just have a sinus infection for the rest... have you seen a doctor or ENT about it?

Not sure how the cyst would worsen / become infected as a result of braces, but anything is possible (I am assuming you have not had it repaired). Are you wearing elastics, and have you ever been told you have an allergy to latex? I think there is a good chance your symptoms are due to something else altogether, but as sirwired suggested you need to see your ENT to figure out what is going on. Best of luck to you.

Thanks for the replies. Already saw ENT and should have mentioned my health concerns and braces. Will head back to my Doctor. Think I just want out of braces, had enough with health. Thanks again. x

If you have issues with Nickel, did you mention that to your orthodontist? There are nickel-free brackets that could be switched out for you.
