Getting braces today!

#1 Post by Palua143 »

Hi I'm new. I just found this site. I'm getting braces this afternoon...I'm 44 yrs old and very nervous about this decision. I have thought of canceling many times this past few days... I had braces as a teen but now I'm having issues with my gums receding on a few bottom teeth because they are out of alignment. My dentist sent me to ortho and they feel it's the best thing to do. I just don't know if I can do this for 2 yrs and I have never met another adult in person with braces...

Don't think about it...just do it. I am supposed to get my braces on this Thursday but had to change my appointment to October 23 because I need to have oral surgery to pull out an impacted tooth and two wisdom teeth. I haven't been able to schedule the surgery because my insurance is still in the verifying process. Good luck.

Hi Paula,
If it's really something that YOU want to do for YOURSELF, then go for it!

Time passes quickly and I think you'll be glad you did it once you get going. That's how I feel anyway and I'm only 6 weeks in.

You're in good company and your anxiety is completely normal. Orthodontics is a weird mix of pleasant and not-so-pleasant surprises, but overall I think most of us are glad we took the plunge. I didn't know any other adult with braces (I'm 63) and now there are two in my office (both women). I've referred them to this website of course. Best of luck to you.

Thank you..it went way better than I expected. I got porcelain braces on top and in a month I'm getting steel on the bottom ( got to have a tooth pulled). I'm 44 there was a lady there 41 getting braces and my orthodontist said his oldest patient is 78...that's awesome! But so far no pain just some pressure and a mild headache. Glad I did it.

Well done on going through with it Palua. I hope everything goes as smoothly for me next week, I understand your anxiety - I am feeling it now. Glad to see somebody else is starting the process at the same time as me. I hope you have no pain tomorrow either! Good luck :D
