Starting my journey to a nice smile

Hi, I'm new here and just wanted to say hi to everyone. I haven't started treatment yet but have had consultations with an orthodontist and dentist about removing my wisdom teeth and peg laterals. Everything will be happening in the first couple of months of next year and I'm trying very hard to not be petrified!

Way to go on getting the ball rolling!

I literally just my orthodontics office 2 hours ago after getting my braces put on and I'll be honest, it does feel strange!

I have no regrets whatsoever and quite honestly can't wait to see results!!!

Have fun!!

Thanks nickd503. It's taken a long time as I've always been scared of the dentist but I looked into it and discovered that orthodontists don't seem as scary so I decided to do it. The I was told I need six teeth extracted and I almost changed my mind lol.
Congrats on getting your braces on!

Congratulations on your decision. You will love your new smile. Mine are on only 6 weeks and I have already seen significant changes. So so exciting!

Congrats!
Walking out of that office with braces is strange.

You suddenly realize that you're 'that person' with braces. You know how have this mouth full of metal. But seriously, it's awesome. I'm still getting used to it myself two weeks in. But honestly, best decision of my life. I know that every day, i'm close to an awesome smile...
a 6000 smile to be exact. haha

The first few days, you're going to feel as though they are popping out of your mouth but don't fret, it will go away :) I hardly feel them now and I admit to playing with them.

oh well, OWN THEM. might as well make the best out of the situation.
And i've also found that it works to have a sense of humor about it!

I hear you.

My parents would take me to a dentist in Mexico and I had the worst experience.
I vowed never to go to them again until it was on my own terms with my own money.

I was the same. I wanted nothing to do with any dentists. But money was also an issue. Now I wish I had done it earlier because it would have been a much easier process. But oh well, can't change the past.

My delay was because of a huge dentist fear. It was about a year and half ago I gathered the courage to finally get my butt in the chair to get some fillings and a regular cleaning schedule going for myself.

Now honestly, in a weird way I'm starting to enjoy my visits. I found a pretty gentle dentist who understands my fear and takes it nice and slow..

I think we tend to over think it.
I know exactly what you mean! I can't wait until my next visit and I used to cringe at the word 'dentist.'

Thanks for sharing!

I thought I was the only one.
But now that I'm in a professional field, I feel as though my crooked smile is holding me back from really interacting with people and being myself. Smiling and laughing is still difficult for me to do. Can't wait until this is ALL OVER.
