Temptooth - anyone heard of it?

It's 2.30 am now and I'm worrying myself sick about the massive extraction gap I'm going to have clearly visible when my upper canine is removed. As I've mentioned before I'm getting linguals so it won't even be obvious that it's an extraction for braces.

Whilst doing some late night googling I came across something called temptooth. Is anyone aware of this? Is it any good?

an acquaintance of mine got his front tooth knocked out as a kid so he had to extract it later in his teen years.
he did he braces and extract the entire tooth, then at the same time the ortho had sort of a placed a fake tooth bonded to the metal ligatures.

his ortho plans to do an implant for him once his done with the other tooth into the the extraction site the fake tooth is on.

Actually it is called a pontic and they are quite common to fill in extraction gaps during braces treatment. You should definitely ask your ortho about it.

If it helps lollypop I had my upper baby canine removed and as my exposed adult one has been brought down I also have a spring widening my gap. It looks so funny after my surgery but I think you will be the only one who really notices. My biggest annoyance at the moment when brushing my teeth is accidentally brushing onto the gum which had a tooth next to it and the gum bleeds.

^^ this lol - my gum at the extraction sites sometime bleeds because I accidentally point my waterpik in the wrong direction :? :? :? :?

For brushing I still completely avoid the gum of the extracted area just brush around it

Temptooth is very common but I chose to live with my gaps as I didn't want to have to go back to my ortho too frequently for adjustments as the gaps closed, also my gaps are not obvious at all (2x upper premolars) unless I choose to reveal them (which I do proudly to whoever will listen to my brace talk lol)

As JAG said though, whatever makes you more comfortable with the process :GapToothed: :GapToothed: :GapToothed:
