Ask your ortho to bend them in until needed.

When I first got my braces I left the office and didn't realize the bands didn't fit properly. I just thought I had to get use to them. That was a Friday. On Monday I had to go back in because it was ripping apart my tongue.
Turns out my bottom two molars are crowns and the bands didn't fit right. I could pull food out of the bottom of the bands. They immediately cut them off. They put a thin band around one molar and the other one had to have a large bracket on just the outside of the tooth.
You should not have that much discomfort with the bands. Have your orthodontist look at it again and show him/her where it hurts. Your teeth might be a lot smaller on the bottom.
Until you can get in there don't forget to use wax!

Just got braces on Monday and I'm having the exact same issue. Mack's silicone ear plugs have been a God send. I got them at CVS and use it in place of wax
