Will rubberbands work for me?

Has anyone here had to wear rubberbands for their overbite? I have to wear 4 rubberands and I know most people wear only 2. I guess I have to wear 4 because my bite is kinda deep. I've been hearing how rubberbands won't fix your overbite unless it's mild. Then why did my orthodontist recommend me rubberbands and not even mentioned about a jaw surgery? I've been wearing my rubberbands for 2 months now and I do see a tiny difference, and by tiny like you can't even notice, but when I bite down my top teeth can touch my bottom teeth. Since my ortho started my rubberbands now, and I still have a year and half to go, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be stuck wearing these rubberbands. But I really want to get my bite fixed, I am 19 and I guess my jaw is already developed so It might be hard to fix my overbite?

Since theres been some improvem already theres a very real possibility that the elastics/rubber bands will work, and surgery is to correct problems with your jaw, which you may not have

Only your orthodontist can tell you if surgery is right for you. These are all questions you should ask them as well. There are a lot of reasons people wear rubber bands and overbite is one of them. The number of elastics you wear and the configuration you're prescribed depends on what kind of movements need to be achieved. Give the elastics time. Rome wasn't built in a day...fixing your bite will be much the same.

The proper treatment for whatever problem you have depends on the exact configuration of your jaws and teeth. Some cases do require surgery, but most do not. Determining the correct treatment plan for you is what your ortho gets paid the big bucks for.
